EXAMPLE 2

Process line between exchanger and pipe rack, (filled with liquid)

1. Supporting the pipeline:

Table for allowable spans indicates:

10” line filled with water and insulated at a temperature between 94ºC and 316ºC.

recommended span: 12050 mm (12.05 m) ().

The overall span of 1.9 + .86 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 3 = 17.76 m is too large.

An additional support is required. Possibilities are again:

a. Beam in the pipe rack.

b. T-Support
c. Support from the exchanger.

Using the beam in the rack as a support, the overhanging part within the pipe rack
becomes:

5 + 1.9 + .86 = 7.76 m

Recommended for this case:

0.65 x 12.05 = 7.83 m, this is > 7.76 m,

so the span in the rack is acceptable.

The part outside the rack is:

7 + 3 = 10 m

Recommended span:

0.75 x 12.05 = 9 m

The T-support as shown in the sketch is also required. The remaining part is now:

3+3=6m

this is smaller than 9m, thus acceptable.
