Work environment

I work in an oncology clinic where I manage 10 Advance Practice Nurses (APN). My

work is to oversee their work and determine their level of competence.

QSEN Modules

Teamwork and Collaboration is important in promoting quality and safety in the clinical

site. It fosters open communication, shared decision-making, development of professional teams,

and it enhances mutual respect (Abel, Howard & Madigan, 2018). Training is an important

aspect in gaining skills, knowledge and attitudes. I will hold seminars and training sessions for

all nurses to equip them with skills to describe their strengths, setbacks, and values. This will

help them to not only initiate self-development plans and respect different views, but also

determine their potential to contribute positively to the success of the team, and appreciate intra-

and inter-professional collaboration.

According to Windle (2015), developing effective strategies to communicate to patients

is a great knowledge nurses should possess. Analyzing different communication strategies used

by nurses and appreciating the impact of our communication skills on service delivery is the first

step to determining this. I will conduct surveys on the effectiveness of communication as well as

train nurses on the effective communication skills with patients and their colleagues.

Identification of factors that facilitate the effective functioning of teams improves

outcomes by eliminate barriers to effective teams. It also helps in developing strategies for

improvement (Abel, Howard & Madigan, 2018). To accomplish this, I will engage my team to

of systems in enhancing team work.
