Unit Exam 2

You will be graded on your incorporation of class terminology, defining that terminology, your use of
articles, in class discussions, lectures, and outside research as evidence, and analysis.

1. Lately, much of the blogosphere on white privilege and black activism has suggested it is not the job of
marginalized populations to educate white/cis-gendered/straight/males about the experience of the
marginalized. In class we talked about Coco Fusco’s lack of transparency in her performance and writing
and whether or not she should have been more open that Couple in a Cage was a “performance” and not a
museum piece (and therefore factual). Does performance and/or theatre necessitate more transparency and
“education” of the audience by the artist? Why or why not? Ground your answer in the articles (especially
Fusco and Bordo) and then how it might play out in one of the plays we’ve read or in the performances we
watched for class.
