A Day without Technology

Scrolling and sharing posts on Facebook, making out conversations with my internet friends on
Messenger, keeping myself updated with the “ganaps” in show business especially the “ganaps” of
KathNiel on Instagram and Twitter, listening music on Spotify, reading different genres of stories on
Wattpad and even playing Mobile Legends, sometimes streaming on YouTube and watching latest
episode of Kadenang Ginto and Killer Bride on iWant. Those are the applications that I usually use
whenever I am holding my phone. I am oftentimes online, making noise on different social media
accounts that I had. I usually spend my time with my phone rather than being with somebody.

I thought, my phone alone is my happiness and I cannot survive a day without it but I was
wrong. This activity, “A Day without Technology” just proved me that the thoughts I have in mind was
wrong. I can actually survive a day without holding a phone. This activity makes me realise a lot of
things. This activity makes me believe that I can do more than being at my comfort zone. And this
activity makes me become more open to the people that surrounds me, my classmates.

When our phone was gone, we are all saying “ang boring” and we badly want it back. Some
even used to ask where their phone is, forgotten that it was surrendered, they thought it was missing.
But later on, we already used with the fact that we cannot hold our beloved phone for the whole
afternoon. Instead, we created a small circle and started a conversation. We exchanged thoughts with
different issues that are happening now in our surroundings. Some shared their experiences, some are
problems and some gave their advices. That moment, I realised that even if it was already 2 years since
we started college and being classmates, I can say that we are still strangers with each other or maybe,
they are still strangers to me because I keep on making walls between myself and them. I am neutral.

One thing we also did during that day was making ourselves more presentable, wearing light
make up, which I don’t usually do, not when it is not needed. We did help each other and let our things
borrowed. We did sharing. And I must say, it was fun. They really have the knowledge on how to make
themselves even more beautiful, and I am proud to say I am learning how to put those stuff on.

A day without technology is not that bad, it was actually amazing. You can do a lot of things you
don’t usually do when you are just holding your phone the whole day. A day without technology will
make you realise a lot of things and will make you reminisce every moments from your past experiences
like when you’re still a kid, carefree playing under the heat of the sun. Just a day without technology will
refresh your mind and your thoughts.
