most significant child-health problems such as diarreah,
worm infection, cholera and malaria. Children who suffer
such illnesses are reduce cognitive potential affecting
their academic performance.

Minanga Elementary School faces challenges related to

water supply and sanitation because the water is not
potable. Working in partnership with PTA and the school, we
came up to the following to focus on:

Safe drinking water – since Minanga Elementary School

was assessed t have unsafe drinking water, the faculty and
the parents decided to get and avail drinking water from
the nearest water station in the community children were
trained not to drink water coming from the faucet inside
the school premises. Children learned to store clean water
I clean covered vessels. Classrooms received a jug of water
and drinking glasses and students assumed responsibility in
refilling and cleaning the jug and glass of rotating bass.

100% of pupils in Minanga Elementary School now have safe

drinking water free from micro-organisms. The pupils are
nowsafe from water borne diseases. The children has now
developed hygiene practice and cleaning beacause it has a
strong impact on children and they can practice what they
learn in their homes.
