I. CONCEPT NOTES
Microscope- is an optical instrument used for viewing very small objects, such as mineral samples or animal
or plant cells, typically magnified several hundred times.
A.1. Directions: Name the parts of the microscope by writing your answer on the space provided given
before the number.
REVOLVING NOSEPIECE/ TURRET 2.It allows the rotation of the lenses while viewing.
FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB 3.Is used for focus on oil. It moves the body tube for focusing the
EYEPIECE LENS 5.Is present at the top and is used to see the objects under study.
A.2. Identify the parts of the microscope based on the illustration given below.
B. Processing Question
1. What are the functions of the base and the arm of the microscope?

C. Concluding Statement
Direction: Complete the 3-2-1 Chart below by supplying the needed information.
2 Interesting Facts....
Values:
I. CONCEPT NOTES
1. Body tube- holds ocular and objective lenses at the proper distances.
2. Arm- supports the body tube and stage; forms a convenient handle.
3. Revolving nosepiece- holds and permits interchange of objective lenses.
4. Stage and slide holder- supports slide
5. Stage and control knobs- move the slide; for centering and scanning images.
6. Diaphragm lever- open and closes the iris diaphragm, controls the amount of light passing
through the stage.
7. Coarse adjustment knob- aids in focusing by moving body tube up and down.
8. Fine adjustment knob- exact focusing.
9. Base- supports the microscope.
Magnifying parts- magnified the object being viewed deep on, look on microscope and it is where
Magnification happens.
1. Ocular/eyepiece- magnifies specimen by 10-15 times
2. Objectives:
a. Low-power Objective- 10-15 times-general view on specimen
b. High-power Objective- 43-100 times-detailed parts of the specimen
c. Scanning Lens- 5 times-general view of the specimen
d. Oil Immersion Objective- 10000 times-used only for viewing bacteria, needs cedar oil.
A.1. Directions: Classify the following mechanical function on the parts of a microscope based on the
given words and table below.
A.2. Sort out the following parts of a microscope by Identifying whether it is a magnifying parts or an
Illuminating part of a microscope. Write M if it is a Magnifying part or I if it is an Illuminating
part.
B. Processing Question
1. What are the advantages of using the High-power Objective (HPO) of a microscope?
1. Concluding Statement
What are the 5 things that you’ve learned about the Magnifying and Illuminating function of a
Microscope?

I. CONCEPT NOTES
The microscope has 3 magnifications: Scanning, Low and High. Each objective will have written the
magnification. In addition to this, the ocular lens (eyepiece) has a magnification. The total magnification is the
ocular x objective.
Magnification Ocular lens Total Magnification
Scanning 4x 10x 40x
Low Power 10x 10x 100x
High Power 40x 10x 400x
A.2. List down the procedures in focusing specimens using the microscope based on the figure given
below.
A. 3. What is the total magnification of the following objective lenses with the eyepiece?
a. Medium (Scanning): ________________
b. Low: ____________________________
c. High: ____________________________
A. 4. Which adjustment knob should you use on the high power? ____________________________________
