3.1.0 Criteria
Contractors must be able to submit project to the designer before deadline. Contractors must be able to attend every meeting punctually or otherwise
provide reasons for absence. As a proof, contractors should be able to provide a detailed schedule for the construction. Besides, contractors should submit
copies of all stage 1 minute of meeting to the designer for the designer to identify the punctuality of the contractor. For more details of the mark allocation,

3.1.2 Budget
Contractors must be able to construct a same quality product as designed by Max Speed
Company, with the lowest possible cost. Designers’ estimated budget is RM 20. Contractors
must able to show the information about the research of materials stated in the material
specification. Extra mark will be given if a cheaper source of materials is used and still
maintain the quality of product as stated. For more details of the mark allocation, refer to

3.1.4 Professionalism
Contractors must have the knowledge of the use of tools as stated in the project.
Professional Contractors must have their work to be organised and always keep both hard
and soft copy of their documents. Certificate should be shown to prove that contractors
have a good result or experience in the related field. Extra mark will be given if more
certificates can be provided. For more details, please refer to Table 8 below.

3.1.5 Teamwork
Distributing of work among contractors must be balanced to avoid any argument and
shorten the construction period. Therefore, schedule of dividing work during the
construction period must be shown and ensure that works are divided evenly among the
contractors. Please refer to Table 9 for more information of the mark allocation.

3.1.6 Communication
Responsible contractors should cooperate well with designers from Max Speed Company.
Contractors and designers should have a good communication and could access to each
other easily.. Contractors should be able to reply email within 24 hours to demonstrate their
competence. To provide evidence, contractors should have a list of contact numbers of the
designers from Max Speed Company. Contractors are required to take down the time when
their reply any email or message and attach on their tender submission. For more

4.1 Objective
What is waste minimising? Waste minimising is a process to reduce the producing waste by
reusing and recycling (Minimising Waste Overview, 2011). Sometimes, waste minimising
plan need to spend our time and energy to make it a success it. Some people may argue that
waste minimising is a terrible work and meaningless as they don’t know the purpose of the
waste minimising. Therefore, what is the purpose of waste minimising? The purposes of
conducting a waste minimising plan are moderate the pollution of the surroundings,
Property: Disc is made by polycarbonate which has high impact strength and scratch
resistance (Polycarbonate, 2014). Disc also coated with a reflective material, like aluminium
Usage: In the mousetrap vehicle design, disc is chosen to act as wheels. In the vehicle, 2 mini
disc with 80 mm (diameter), 1 mm (width) and 2 standard compact discs with 120mm
(diameter), 1 mm (width).
4.2.2 Plywood
Property: Plywood is a kind of wood which always used in manufacturing as its properties
are high impact resistance, surface dimensional stability, flexible, cheap, workable,
recyclable (Plywood,2014).
Usage: Plywood will be used to contract body of the vehicle. The main reason of choosing
plywood to construct vehicle is because the cost of plywood is low and its weight is light. In
construct the side part while another plywood with 160mm (length), 104 mm (width), 3mm
4.2.3 Mousetrap
Property: Mousetrap is a type of animal catching tool specialised for catching mouse by
Usage: Mousetrap will be used as the energy source of the mousetrap racing car. The
mousetrap has dimensions of 160 mm (length) and 85 mm (width) and there is only one
Property: Hot glue (thermoplastic hot melt) is made by polyamides and polyesters. It is
colourless, melt viscosity, having fast cure rate and easy handling (Wengert, 1998).
Usage: A stick of hot glue will be used to stick the mousetrap to the vehicle and stick the
Property: Nylon Fishing Line is light, stretching and able to sustain high tension
(Monofilament Lines,2014).
Usage: 1 000mm (length) of fishing line will be used to pull the rear axle of mousetrap racing
car.
Property: White rubber bands are highly extensible and elastic (Robert and John, 1984).
Usage: 4 pieces of 3 mm (width), 1 mm (thickness) rubber bands will be used to wrap the
4.2.7 Skewer
Usage: Four skewers will be used in the mousetrap racing car. Two skewers will act as the
vehicle’s axles and another two will be used to pull the fishing lines.
Property: Thin, flat, and circular general-purpose washers with a centrally located hole
will be used to hold the axle from moving horizontally when the mousetrap racing car in
motion.
Property: Wire tape is adhering and removable (Cable and Electrical Tape Information, 2014).
Usage: One unit of wire tape will be used to wrap the skewers with the mousetrap snapper
arms.
Property: Superglue (Cyanoacrylate adhesive) has fast drying rate, and outstanding
mechanical strength achieved with only small drops of adhesive (Cyanoacrylate adhesives
Usage: Two stick of superglue is supposed to be used to stick rubber bands and wheel.
Method: Reconstruct to make a photo frame (10 Reuse Ideas for CDs and DVDs, 2014). The
a) To a make photo frame, double tape, picture, 2 discs, box cutter, super glue,
b) First, one of the discs is measured with a ruler and makes clear line of the
c) Cut a perfect square (64 mm x 64 mm) on the centre of disc with box cutter.
Refer to figure 6.
d) Next, attach the double sided tape on the disc which had been cut and another
e) After that, put the picture on the double tape which had been already attached
f) The disc which has been cut is needed to be put on the picture and the picture
g) Mini disc can also use to do photo frame with steps have shown above by
4.3.2 Plywood
Method: The waste minimising plan of plywood is reused to make book stand. To make a
bookstand, plywood, fishing line, saw and hot glue are required.
1. First, tie the two plywood which have 250mm (length), 3mm (width), 80mm (height)
2. Cut the plywood base which has 160 mm (length) x 102 mm (width) x 3 mm (height) into
3. Then attach the plywood side to the plywood centre using hot glue as shown in figure 9.
4.3.3 Mousetrap
Method: Mousetrap will be detached from the body and reuse as its original function.
Method: Scrap off from the mousetrap racing car and melt it again using hot glue gun and
Method: The fishing line will untie from the skewers and axle. Then the fishing line will be
4.3.7 Skewer
Method: Skewer will be detach from the snapper arm and deposed.
4.3.8 Washer
Method: Washer will be detach from the axle and kept for the usage of future student of
EFPC 100.
Method: Super Glue will be deposed and the remaining unused super glue will be kept.
