Learning Area: Physical Education Skill Year level:
development Year 8
Unit Title: Striking and Fielding; Diamond Lesson Focus: Development of striking and
Cricket fielding skills

Preparation:
The lesson was well planned and all learning resources were set up for the beginning of the
lesson. Natasha shared her planning with me before the lesson which was detailed and clear.
The lesson plan had a clear structure and was well planned. Natasha took steps to ensure
that the lesson was adequately resourced and also enquired about the range of learners
experience and ability in the class.

Before the lesson Natasha and I reflected on a year previous 9 lesson, and Natasha was able
to identify areas of her performance which she felt could be improved

 Be more assured and assertive

 Wait for learners to be quiet before giving instructions
 Position her body better when observing the whole class.

Presentation:
Natasha made it clear to the learners what the focus of the lesson was. She described to the
learners what they had to do in order to be successful in the lesson. Natasha questioned
learners about their understanding of Diamond Cricket and what they can do to be effective
when they play.

The lesson followed a clear pattern of a warm up, skill development then to conclude the
lesson, the learners applied their learning in a competitive game.

All learners had the opportunity to be successful and Natasha gave feedback to most learners
on what they had to do to develop their performance. Natasha asked questions such as “what
can you do better?, how can you improve?”

Natasha could have structured the introduction activity better, and this was something she
identified after the lesson. Learners should have been given a more defined area to work in.

Natasha was more assured and confident in the lesson. She was the focal point of all learning
and controlled the class appropriately.

Content Knowledge:
Natasha demonstrated that she had researched the rules of Diamond Cricket. Her use of a
physical diagram (she used tennis balls to explain the structure of the game) developed
learners knowledge and understanding. All learners clearly understood the game and were
able to be active participants in the lesson.
Managing student learning:
Natasha highlighted examples of good practice from learners and also addressed learners
who were off task. The feedback learners received was clear and was accurate. Rather than
simply tell learners what they had to do better Natasha questioned learners on what they had
to do, this gave the learners ownership of their learning. For example Natasha questioned
learners on the rules of the game if they made a mistake and asked them what they should
have done. This was very effective.

Managing student wellbeing and behaviour (

Natasha addressed learners who were slightly off task and reminded them of their
expectations. Natasha calmly waited for learners to focus their attention before sharing
instructions. Natasha was very caring and supportive of one of the AP learners and provided
him with lots of feedback. He shared with me at the end of the lesson that he had fun in the
lesson.

General Comments and focus for next lesson:

This was an excellent lesson. Learners clearly enjoyed the lesson and developed their
performance. Natasha acted on my previous recommendations, there was clear progression
in this lesson. Natasha was more confident and assured throughout the lesson.
Initially the class were slightly lethargic however as a result of Natasha’s charisma and
determination the class were active and learned something from the lesson.

Natasha should ensure she revists the learning intention more often throughout the lesson.
