Logarithmic Functions

A logarithmic function is the

inverse of an exponential function.
We can use a log function to find
an exponent.

PROPERTIES OF LOGARITHM
For any base b > 0 and b ≠ 1,
a. 𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑏 𝑥 = 𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑏 𝑦 if and only if x = y.
Example 1: 𝑙𝑜𝑔2 −2𝑥 + 10 = 𝑙𝑜𝑔2 (7 − 5𝑥)
-2x + 10 = 7 – 5x
-2(-1) + 10 = 7 – 5(-1)
-2x + 5x = 7 – 10
3x = -3 2 + 10 = 7 + 5

• You volunteered to tutor two of your classmates, Ana and Elsa.
You gave the following equation for them to solve:
𝑙𝑜𝑔18 𝑘 2 + 2 = 𝑙𝑜𝑔18 (7𝑘 + 2)
After a given time, you asked them to show their answers. Ana and
Elsa have (0,7) and (-7,0) as their solutions, respectively. Which of
them got the correct answer? Present the correct and complete
solution on your notebook.
