1. Special features
The V140/VC140 fans are characterised by the following features:
• Robust blade-hub connection with which the glass-fibre reinforced blades are tightly
fastened in the hub made of aluminium.
• The shutter is opened by the volume flow, similar to the V130 fan, and magnetically locked
when the fan is at a standstill.
• Due to the use of an efficient electric motor with efficiency class IE3, the energy
consumption is moderate despite the power of 2 PS and the high pressure resistance.
• A maintenance-free V-belt tensioner ensures the correct tension in the belt and a long
service life of the drive system.
• High corrosion resistance of the housing and diffuser due to a special ZAM coating.

The 6-blade fan was designed specifically for application with high pressures. This includes long
tunnel-ventilated laying houses with pad cooling, applications with manure drying tunnel OptiSec
or exhaust air treatment with the StuffNix dust filter.
The air capacities and specific energy consumption can be found in table 1. Further technical data
as well as the conversion of the technical data to the imperial system can be found in the data
sheets in the Keytech.

The 3-blade fan can be used for applications with an operating pressure of up to 60 Pa. The
number of new fans to be installed is lower compared to the smaller Airmaster fans.

5. Accessories
Similar to the V130 series, the standard equipment of the fan includes:
• a wire mesh guard on the suction side for the V140
• a wire mesh guard on the pressure side in the diffuser of the VC140

If the fan is accessible for persons due to an installation height below 2.70 m, an additional CE wire
mesh guard has to be installed on the side of the shutter, similar to the V130 fan.

Further optional accessories are the mounting flange set as well as the PerforMacs light trap.

* The light trap PerforMacs reduces the air capacity of a 6-blade fan by approx. 7 %, in case of a 3-blade fan by
approx. 10 %.

In future, the storage location for the data sheets will be available in the Keytech,
relating to the product. This is accessible via the Enterprise.

6. Pressure, the invisible problem

The entire static pressure in a house against which the fans must work is often underestimated. A
higher pressure has multiple consequences:
• Less fresh air for the animals than planned
• Lower air speed in the tunnel ventilation, thus smaller cooling effect for the animals  heat
stress
• The fans show poor efficiency, the current consumption increases
• The strain on the fans is higher

The fans must work “against the negative pressure”. Their air capacity decreases with increasing
negative pressure. The air capacity of fans with high pressure resistance is influenced less by
pressure fluctuations. Figure 5 shows the difference in air capacities of the VC130-3 fan (blue)
compared with the pressure-stable V140-6 fan (orange).

Figure 5: Air capacity / pressure

There are a lot of factors which increase the negative pressure in the house:
1. Pad cooling
2. Tunnel inlet
3. Air deflection
4. Longitudinal ventilation
5. Other

The new Airmaster BD-V140

1.) At an air speed of 1.5 m/sec, clean

pads ensure a pressure loss of approx.
13 Pa.

Figure 5: Pad cooling

2.) The tunnel inlet ensures a pressure

increase by 5-17 Pa (depending on the
house width)

Figure 6: Tunnel opening

3.) The deflection of the air leads to a

pressure loss of another 15 Pa,
depending on the tunnel speed. In case
of a tunnel speed of 3 m/s, the pressure
loss is approx. 11 Pa.

Figure 7: Deflection of the incoming air

Dezember 13, 2016 Page 8 / 10 PI No. 01-0042

The new Airmaster BD-V140

4.) In case of a tunnel speed of 3 m/s,

there is a pressure loss of 0.38 Pa/m –
thus 38 Pa in case of a system length of
100 m – in a cage house with wire
partitions per meter of the system.

When selecting the air speed, consider

that the pressure increases
exponentially with the increase of the air
speed!
Figure 8: Air movement longitudinally through the house
5.) In addition there are many other
factors which are unknown at the
planning stage, as e.g.:
• Covers in front of the pads (approx.
15 Pa)
• Obstacles in front of the fans, e.g.
manure curtains
• Obstacles behind the fans, e.g.
exhaust air towers
• Congested pads (practice shows
Figure 9: Bottleneck closed manure curtain pressures of up to 70 Pa!)
• All obstacles in the house, e.g.
supports
All these pressures add up. The result leads to the operating pressure in the dimensioning for
which the fans are designed. However, the factors under 5. can often not be considered.
If the fans are designed close to their maximum operating pressure, an increased operating
pressure can lead to decreasing air change rates and thus to the above mentioned consequences.
Pressure-resistant fans like the 6-blade V140 still have reserves, even at higher pressures, so that
an increasing pressure reduces the air capacity only slightly.
