Scope:

To validate the foundation design of firewater tank for reduced strength of concrete from
4000psi (27.6 MPa) to 3000psi (20.6 MPa).

Design Consideration:

Concrete compressive strength = 20.6 MPa

Steel yield strength = 420 MPa
Concrete cover= 50mm (R.C.C. Pedestal)
75mm (R.C.C. Footing)
Allowable bearing Pressure = 100 kN/sq.m
Surcharge Pressure = 11.4 meter water height + 1 meter soil pressure (at rest)

Results and Recommendations:

Pedestal:
Mu = 42 kN-m
As Vertical (required) = Minimum Governs
As Vertical (provided) = d12/150 c/c

Hoops Force = 90 kN
As Horizontal (required) = 238 sq.mm (Minimum Governs)
As Horizontal (provided) = 10+10 – d16

Footing:
Soil Beaning Pressure = 38 kN/sq.m < 100 kN/sq.m (Allowable)
As (required) = Minimum Governs
As (provided) = d12/150 c/c

In lights of the above results, the concrete strength of 3000psi (20.6 MPa) is suitable.
