HW#7 - Lateral Design using RAM Structural System

Due 10:00 am, November 4, 2019

For this homework, refer to the figure from the tutorial (shown below).

Problem #1
Using RAM Structural System, you are to model and design the lateral framing system in both the (a)
east-west and (b) north-south directions to satisfy drift limits. Please make the name of your RAM file
“Lastname_firstname_hw7”. You need to submit the following reports from RAM**:
- Elevation view summarizing your beam and column designs for both (a) and (b).
- Steel takeoff indicating the total weight of steel in each direction. Which frame design is more
cost-effective? (Remember that the north-south direction has 3 frames, so you’d need to multiply
your results by 3)
- A sample report showing the nodal displacements determined by RAM with appropriate results
highlighted. You must also show corresponding calculations to prove your design (this should be
on a separate sheet).

**Important note: Do Not provide un-annotated printouts from RAM. This means that if you print
something from RAM, you must show how you use it (i.e. make notes on the report, highlight important
things, tell me why you printed this particular page). You should submit RAM printouts as pdf files
online.
