EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In this scenario, Sameer needs to make a tough decision. He can either opt to join a new company
which would recruit him after the completion of his MBA and would be paying him a hefty amount for
remuneration as well. Not to mention the added perks and level of exposure he might recieve. However,
his MBA degree was funded in good faith by his previous recruiters (BABA). He had made a promise
that he would return to the company and work for a minimum of three years before looking for other
career paths. On failing to do so he is liable to repay the amount that was sponsored to him for his
MBA. The new recruiter Cloud Skin is adamant on acquiring his talent and even agrees to pay half of
his MAB fee. He now faces a complex tradeoff.

SITUATION ANALYSIS
In this setting, Sameer an engineering graduate convinces Mr.Anil Baba and his company to sponsor
him for his executive MBA. He promises to return back to BABA after his MBA and work for the
company for a minimum of three years. He also agrees that he would be liable to repay the entire tuition
fee that was sponsored to him if he does not return. After completion of his MBA he was offered to
work for a start-up organization called Cloudskim. The company is willing to pay him twice the salary
i.e. ($146,000) which he gets at Mr. Baba’s company. Cloudskim are so adamant on acquiring his talent
that they even agree to pay 50 percent of his MBA fee. Sameer could go for the increased remuneration
and perks coupled with exposure and competitive environment but this would come at the cost of going
back on his words and might even take a personal toll on his attitude and self esteem as he realises that
he will lose the goodwill and support of the ones who supported him. He is in a complex trade-off.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Here as derived from the situation analysis Sameer is in a dilemma as to whether he should honor his
promise and go back to Mr.Anil Baba and work in his company for 3 years or he could opt for large
upgrade in terms of monetary remuneration and perks also, not to mention the exposure and prospects
of career acceleration. He must sacrifice one for the other as of this moment.

OBJECTIVES
1) Ensure a prosperous and sustainable career path.

2) Maintaining and withholding BABA’s support and goodwill.

OPTIONS AND EVALAUTION

Sameer has two options before him:

OPTION 1: Accept the offer of Cloudskim Company

Pros:
1) Better Career prospects: If he accepts the Cloudskim Co. offer, he would accelerate his
career trajectory as he would be exposed to the best in the industry. A fast paced and
competitive work environment would keep him on his toes.
2) Monetary remuneration: He would be getting twice the salary if he decides to go with
Cloudskim. Moreover, they would even bear half of his MBA fee.

Cons:

1) Straining relations: It would strain his relation with Mr. Anil Baba and his company and
would lose their support and any goodwill earned.

2) Lack of character: His decision to leave his previous recruiters stranded just for personal
gains would set a very formidable impression on any other new recruiters.

3) Personal toll: He might regret his decision and dive into a whirlpool of self doubt and lack
of self esteem.

OPTION 2: Stay with Mr. Baba’s company only.

Pros:

1) Display of formidable character: If he decides to come back to his former company all of
his colleagues would note this display of integrity and he would amass huge respect and
trust from his peers.

2) Set an example: This would set an example for all his colleagues and anyone who would
want to pursue a professional course.

Cons:

1) Huge opportunity cost: He would be sacrificing a lot of money and added perks. He would
miss out on an opportunity of exposure and fast paced competitive work environment.

2) Mundane lifestyle: Returning to his mundane lifestyle and office space would probably halt
his growth and he may not be able to utilize his skills to the best of his abilities.

DECISION AND JUSTIFICATION
Sameer must decide between the two companies. If he wishes to return to BABA he would be sacrificing a
huge chance at a better career path along with the large pay scale upgrade. It would not be advisable to return
to BABA since this would only deter him from his long term ambitions. Moreover, Cloudskim would pay for
his MBA fees. Joining Cloudskim would give Sameer the best platform to nurture and excel his skills. It
would also present before him a dynamic and sustainable career path. Moreover, his friend Patrick would be
filling in his shoes and Mr.Anil Baba and his company could make do with him.

ACTION PLAN

1) Sameer must convey his interest of joining Cloudskim to Zeisberger associates.

2) He can push for someform of additional joining bonus which he could donate to his former company
BABA as token of gratitude and goodwill.

3) Once, the fee has been reimbursed he will now accept the offer letter from Cloudskim.

CONTINGENCY PLAN

In case Sameer is not able to pay the entire MBA fee back to Mr. Anil Baba at this very moment, he should
then considering honouring his promise and return to working for BABA for three years before looking for
other organisationss and career prospects.
