Advisory Caution
-This machine was designed for a specific capacity, avoid overloading your equipment.
WARNING!
Disconnect the power source from the machine and its peripheral units before
undertaking any repairs in order to avoid physical injuries.
CAUTION!
Handle with care. Violent shocks could alter and/or impair adjustments and cause
damage to the machine.

3. Proceed with all electrical connections, Use electrical drawing supplied. (This procedure
should be done by a qualified electrician.)
4. Proceed with all pneumatic and hydraulic connections, Use pneumatic and hydraulic
drawings supplied. Each hose that is to be connected is identified identical to the place
where it is to be connected to, which makes for an easy hook-up.
6. Anchor the tunnel to the floor with the use of the appropriate size “Anchor Bolts”.

PRE-START VERIFICATIONS
The pre-start verification allows you to identify if any components present anomalies. The
identification and resolution of these anomalies will allow you to manufacture a quality
product for many years to come.
The tension of the chain connecting the two lateral chain adjustment screws, can be
adjusted. To do so, unscrew bolts (A), lower tensioners (B) (one only shown below). Once
the desired tension is attained, tighten bolts (A).
B A
Each regulator is to be used to adjust a specific pneumatic component. Here are the
descriptions of each of the pneumatic regulators found on one of the lateral chains of the
tunnel:
1. Regulator for the rapid opening of the mobile lateral chain. The pressure should read
approximately 38 psi (2.6 bar).
2. Lateral chain tension system regulator. Found at the entrance end of the tunnel, on top
of each lateral chain guide. The pressure should read approximately 87 psi (6 bar).
3. Regulator for the pneumatic bellows found along the total length of the mobile lateral
chain, towards the interior of the tunnel. The pressure should read approximately 7 psi
(0.5 bar).

OPERATION PARAMETERS
5
In this chapter, we will see the operation parameters that you will have to adjust
according to the wood thickness and the wood width. Each time you change one of these
two variables, you will have to adjust one or many operation parameters.
When these guide shoes are used for wide product, they must be adjusted according
to the thickness of the product, which means they should be 1/32" to 1/16" (0.8 mm to 1.6
mm) over the product as not to wedge or prevent the product from correctly entering the
tunnel. To make this adjustment you must unscrew bolts (C) that hold them in place, adjust
the guide shoes until the desired setting is attained, tighten bolts.
A B C
For the assembly tunnel to function correctly, you must adjust the mobile lateral
chain so that the product is pressed between the two chains. Begin by adding 1/16" (1.6
mm) of pressure once the chains are against the product, if you notice that the product does
not flow correctly through the tunnel, you can gradually add pressure by turning the handle
(B) up to 1/8" (3.2 mm) pressure maximum.
A B A
2. Insert a piece of the correct size product to be fabricated (C), position the piece between
the two wheels (D).
3. By using the adjustment handle (E), adjust the distance between the two wheels until
you can no longer manually move the piece (approximately 1/16" (1.6 mm) pressure)
4. De-activate the pneumatic bellows (A) by using pneumatic valve (B). to be able to
remove the product.

Comb press
The comb press should be adjusted according to the thickness and width of the
product to be fabricated.
First you must be sure to have the correct number of combs in regards to the width of
the product to be fabricated. One comb is needed for product 5” (127 mm) wide and under
and two combs for product 5" (127 mm) to 8" (203 mm) wide.
2. Lift the comb (B) until it rests against the supports (C).
3. Reinstall the two handles (A) from step 1 back where they were and be sure that the
handles faces upwards to prevent damaging them when the tunnel closes.

Next, the height of the comb press must be adjusted according to the thickness and the
width of the product. The distance between the underside of the comb and the top of the
product varies between 1/32" (0.8 mm) of space for narrow product, and 1/32" (0.8 mm) of
pressure for wide product.
To make this adjustment you must first verify that the rod (A) of the press cylinder is
completely extended. If the rod is not fully extended, refer to section “Rapid opening of the
tunnel” chapter 4 to know how to actuate the cylinder. Then you must turn the adjustment
handle (B) until the desired position is attained.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
6
WARNING!
To avoid injury and physical damage, disconnect power from SAI and associated
units before undertaking any repairs.
Problems Solutions
• Verify that the E-Stop button in not engaged.
• The tunnel does not start • Verify that there are not any alarm lights lit.
• Verify fuses and breakers.
1- Tunnel opening
This alarm will light if the mobile lateral chain opens. If this alarm lights up because of
an adjustment being made, it will simply be used as a reminder to close the lateral chain
before re-starting the machine.
If this alarm lights up during a normal cycle, this would mean that it was the product
that opened the lateral chain. A technician will then have to open the tunnel and verify
different points. First verify if there isn’t a piece too wide, on its side, twisted, broken or
wedged inside the tunnel. If this is the case the technician must remove it manually.
It is also possible that this alarm will light if the lateral chain is not well adjusted or if
the pressure applied to the product is higher than what is admissible by the system. If this is
the case, refer to chapter 5 to find the correct adjustments.
It is also possible that this alarm will light if there is no pneumatic pressure in the
components of the system. You must then supply pneumatic pressure to the system before
starting the machine.
2- Joint detection
This alarm will light if the two photocells located each side of the motorized wheels at
the entrance of the press do not read the product simultaneously. This can happen for
different reasons, such as: if there is no product in that area at that time, if a joint is open, if
a piece is turned up on its side, if a piece is much narrower than the others, if a piece is
darker than the other such as a knot or a mark, if a piece is twisted or if a piece is wedged
in the tunnel. The photocells could also be misalign or even defective. All these reasons can
determine why the alarm may light.
Considering the speed of the system, it is possible that when the tunnel stops, the
problem may not be found in front of the photocells. The technician should visually inspect
the system and not limiting the inspection to that area only.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING!
To avoid injury and physical damage, disconnect power from FAO and
associated units before undertaking any repairs.
General Maintenance
In order to keep this machine clean, it should be dusted off with compressed air everyday.
This procedure is especially important to maintain the efficiency of all mechanical
components.
