-Who were they?


Maori people are the people that arrived to New Zealand over 700 years ago , which are
Polynesian settlers who would populate the islands that make up New Zealand. They were
isolated from the world until European settlers come to the island.

-When were they created?


They were created over 700 years ago which are Indian Polynesian settlers that arrived at
the islands that are known to be New Zealand.

-Maori cultural facts


+Maori people define them self by their tribe (iwi) and sub-tribe (hapu)
+Maori people are known to be very good carvers, tattoo artists, healers and builders.
+Maori people tattoos are one of their striking aspect because of how unique and beautiful
the tattos was . Tattooing in their culture are called tamoko and it has been a very important
part of their culture. The tattoos were also used to show a person’s rank .
+Maori people relied on fishing as their main sources of food.
+Maori culture are rich with stories and legends, and the Maori creation story describes a
world being formed by Gods.
+Maori people would feast centering around a pit in the ground and food would be put in
ovens called hangi, which are heated stones that would cook the food.
+In Maori mythology , Maui is the great culture hero and trickster .
