I. INTRODUCTION

Technology plays an important major role in today’s generation. As years go by the need for the

functionality of technologies make computers on demand, in fact it even require to add the new model

of integrating technology into the curriculum on every school. Technology teachers and administrators

face the task of developing a technology plan that makes the most effective and efficient use of the

computer hardware available to them. Whether using desktops, the computer lab remains the center for

most computing activity in schools.

The Good Shepherd Christian Academy who was later named as Gracious Shepherd Christian

Academy is a private school located at San Roque Extension, Abar 1st, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. The

computer laboratory of the said school is a single-storey building with a total of fifteen (15) computers,

having said that it doesn’t seem to fit the whole class to use the computers all at once.

To help both the students and the teacher to share files they need a stable network and clear

connection that will be connected to the administrator. Also, the cables connected to each computer and

the switch were not organize that it can be easily detached or may have a hard time configuring were

the certain cable belongs. The cable of the hardware may cause a problem with any physical interaction

means, it may cause the data lost when accidentally detached or may cause someone to physically hurt

by tripping on it and any other dangerous situation that may happen.

The students of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology study the different outlines and

design to keep each cables organize, sets a computer that will be used as the administrator and

configuring the communication of all the computers in the Computer Laboratory and test if the network

is working properly.

5
II. PROBLEM DOMAIN

A. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main problem that the teachers in Computer Laboratory in Gracious Shepherd Christian

Academy wanted to fix is the connection of each computer. They wanted to have a connection between

all the computers in laboratory and a single computer that will be used as the administrator that will

easily share files and collect the files.

The teachers also noted that their cables were not organized and with a single physical

interaction it may cause the computers to shut down. The UTP cables that is connected to the switch

were also disordered that it is hard to recognize the direction of a single cable.

There are fifteen (15) computers in Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy’s Computer

Laboratory. There is no computer yet that set as the administrator. The fifteen (15) computers IP

address were not yet configured. For this reason it cannot be connected to any of the computers yet.

B. OBJECTIVES

General Objective

The project’s main purpose is to organize of each computers and the UTP cables of the

switch.

6
Specific Objectives:

Specifically this project aims to:

 To organize the cables of each computers and the UTP cables of the switch.
 Establish a connection between the administrator and all of the computers in the Computer Laboratory.
 Test if the file sharing is successful between the and all of the computers in the Computer Laboratory.

C. SCOPE AND SIGNIFICANCE

Scope

This study is concerned in establishing a proper connection between the administrator and

all of the computers. The Gracious Shepherd Academy’s Computer Laboratory has a total of fifteen

(15) working computers and fourteen (14) of this will be serve as the student’s computer while the

remaining one (1) will be set as the administrator that the teacher will be able to use. This project

will also focus on organizing the cables of the computers and its UTP cables that is connected to

the switch.

In addition, providing each computer an IP address and testing if the network is working

properly. The students of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology will conduct proper

research, and deliberate learning of the Gracious Shepherd Academy’s Computer Laboratory

designs and outlines to fully understand the scheme of the computer’s networks and its cables

considering that a single mistake may cause problem to the computers.

Significance

7
The significance of this study is to make the student and the teacher share files easily through their

computers. Specifically, configuring each IP addresses of each computer and giving them a unique

identification that will be used as their connection with each other. By doing this they can properly

communicate with each other, they can share files, and let the administrator easily check each activities

of the students than manually gathering the data one by one. Also, by organizing their cables it can be

easily identify the specific cable of the computer connected to the switch so that if there’s a certain

error regarding the cable it can easily be recognize. The other cables, specifically the cables of the

hardware, will also cause a big problem if not yet giving an attention to fix because if there’s unsaved

data on the computer and a physical interaction within the cables may cause the computer to

accidentally shutdown, resulting the loss of data. Also if a natural disasters occurs it may cause a

problem for the computers to permanently shut down or it may cause a hazardous events, like causing

fires.

Limitation

The project is focused only on fixing the main problem that the teachers have been

experiencing, which is the connection of each computer and organizing the cables. No other issues will

be fix under the study.

III. METHODOLOGY

8
The students of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology used a PPDIOO which is under the

CISCO methodology. The PPDIOO defines as the continuous life-cycle of services required for a

network. It has six phases or steps which are Prepare, Plan, Design, Implement, Operate, and Optimize,

which will serve as the outline for the connection of the network of Gracious Shepherd Academy’s

Computer Laboratory computers.

The figure below shows the six phases of the network methodology. This contains as first

analysing the problems that the organization or company have been experiencing, conducting possible

ways to resolve the problem, creating an outlines that will be used as the new design to properly apply

the solutions, Applying the conducted solution, testing and verifying the operation of the project and

optimizing the implemented project.

Figure 1 the PPDIOO

9
Prepare

The students will conduct an interview with the owner of the School or the assigned teacher

responsible for the Computer lab to identify the problem and the equipment they use. The gathered

information will be the guidelines needed to accomplish the student’s goal in the project’s future

work.

Here are possible questions that may ask:

a.) How many computers are in the computer laboratory room?

-This is to identify how large is the network coverage of the Computer lab.

b.) What are the existing devices and/or hardware of the computer laboratory room?

-To analyze if there are missing equipment that may be needed for the network

c.) What are the problem encountered to in the network

-To identify the main objective of the project

There may be additional questions that maybe asked during the interview depending on the

situation. The students may have notice some situation during observation on the target place regarding

the problem.

Technical Feasibility

To know if there are proper equipment and required systems that the students will use on the

future of the project work analyzing the Technical Feasibility will be needed.

10
Economic Feasibility

The students will conduct an Economic Feasibility that will help identify the cost and benefits,

in tangible or intangible means, of the system to determine whether the value of the investment exceed

the time and cost.

Operational Feasibility

Operational Feasibility is needed to know if the faculty are willing to replace any equipment,

software, network or any possible operation that will be apply to solve the problem in the future project

works. It will also help determine if the assigned teacher or faculty will be able to operate the applied

solution.

Plan

Aware about the gathered information, the students will now make a plan and conduct different

ideas or ways to solve the issue of Gracious Shepherd Academy, Computer Laboratory. This way it will

be easier to carefully analyse the existing network topology and to identify the operation needed and fix

the problem that may encounter during this.

The students will plan the equipment, needed for the hardware cables to properly fix and

organize the cables of the computer, and the equipment needed to solve the problem that the faculty

have encounter on the Computer Lab. The students will also identify the possible software needed to

share files within the connected network of the computers.

11
Design

In the designing phase, using the application Edraw, the students created a floor plan layout

design for the current setup of the Academy’s computer room’s network, as they are used to do it first

more than the logical design. This is important to determine whether there will be changes on the

network. After examining the current floor plan and network, using the same application Edraw, the

students created new network topology and floor plan that will serve as their guidelines throughout the

implementation of the project.

Physical Design – This normally shows the actual physical floor plan of the facility.

Logical Design – This shows logical representation of the network connection of each

computer.

Implementation

After the design has been approved by the Academy’s owner and teacher-that monitor the

laboratory, the implementation of the project begins. Any additional components are built according to

the new designs. The students will start by installing the required equipment; such as computers,

switch, router, and the network topology based on the new design of network. This may include

additional installation of LAN (wired) cables if needed, organizing cables, configuring IP address and

its subnet mask. The configured IP address of each PC were pinged to see if the connection were

already established. When the connection were successfully set up, the students created a homegroup to

one of the PC that will serve as way to shares files.

12
Operate

This phase will determine the performance of the project. Thus, the new implemented network

will be tested if it will meet the client’s needs, which results to the satisfaction of project objectives. It

will only claim successful if, and only if, the problem was solved and the client was satisfied with the

result.

Optimize

Analyzing the improvement of the new implemented network will be in this phase. The main

purpose of this phase is to determine if the project deployed is still in alignment with evolving business

needs. The students will compare the new network from the old one.

IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The gathered data at Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy is documented and analyzed to be

able to come up with solutions for some network problems.

Prepare

In this phase, the students had conducted meetings to analyze and to determine the requirements

needed for gathering data. They gathered information from the questions they prepared. The gathered

data through interview, via Facebook messenger and personal, are articulated below:

1. How many computers are in the computer laboratory room?

 15 computers, which is more than 10 computers to be considered as small network

Follow up question: How many are connected to the network?

 All PCs are connected, yet they are not configured.

2. What are the existing devices and/or hardware of the computer laboratory room?
 15 PCs which all windows 7, 1 printer, 1 switch, and 1 router.
3. What are the problems encountered in the network?
 The IP addresses of the computers are not configured.
13
4. Of what event was the usual problem that hindrance the availability time of both parties?
 The students and school owner’s schedule have conflict, so via Facebook messenger the

students notify the owner before going to school.

Summary

The assigned teacher of the computer room told that their problem, aside from the connection of

each computer, the cables were not organized and with a single physical interaction it may cause the

computers to shut down, was that their allotted time serve for learning and doing new activities

consumed on checking the activity of the students manually. The teacher need to walk around the

computer laboratory and check each computer of the students one by one. This is also the problem they

encountered when giving files needed for a certain situation.

Feasibility Study

Feasibility study is an analysis of how a project can be successfully completed. It enables the

student to determine if the project can be Operationally, Economically and Technically Feasible.

Technical Feasibility

This method will find out if the Gracious Shepherd Christian School’s computer room is

capable on having technical resources. This includes the hardware and software that will be using in

installing the network.

The implemented reconfiguration of Network are successful and the cables are

successfully rearranged since cabling and connecting PC’s to each other is the only scope of the

project.

V. CONCLUSION

The project is to implement the reconfiguration of Network to have connection between other

PC’s and rearrangement of cables for the Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy. The project’s main

focus is to reconfigure the Network of each PC’s and organize the cables of the school. After

implementing the project, the school will now have an organized network.

VI. RECOMMENDATION

The students recommend constant checking and monitoring of all the ports, cables and network

to check if it is in good condition. By doing this, this can prevent interruption or network failure.

VII. APPENDICES

Since our client is not here in the Nueva Ecija. We conducted the interview using facebook

messenger. Here are the screenshots from the conversation:

35
In

the pictures shown above the principal of the Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy they indicated that

there are fifteen (15) computers in the laboratory, two (2) computers in the office, and one (1) in the

library. In the end when the trainees where about to configure the computers in the office and library

the owner said that the main problem they want to resolve only occurs in the computer laboratory,

therefore the trainees only focused on resolving the problem in the laboratory room and left the office

and libraries computers untouched.

36
This picture shows that the two student’s checking the PC’s and the cables of the

computers in the laboratory of Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy.

37
This is the proof that shows that the team accomplished the project. This picture shows

that the team had done the structured cabling with the guidance of Ms. Mylin M. Baxa, the assigned

teacher of the Computer Laboratory of Gracious Shepherd Christian Academy.
