Aim: To Study Position Control of DC Motor by analog PID Controller Using Anshuman PID
Kit.

Apparatus: Anshuman PID Kit, DC Motor. Computer

Theory:

Proportional control with step change in set point

Connect the test setup as shown in the wiring sequence above. Apply square wave as set point
change from function generator. You can observe the process response on CRO or on PC using
CIA card process monitoring mode of the PIDs.
Observe the graph of set point vs position feedback MV on PC with 0.1sec sampling time 30
samples/div. Set PB 100%, do not select I & D actions observe the response of set point Vs M.V
before level shifter at 10 sec sampling time.
The graph will be as shown. From the graph it can be observed that at 100% PB with step change
in set point op will settle with large steady state error without oscillations or any overshoots.
Hence 100% PB is not sufficient to settle the process without any error.
Now reduce the PB to reduce the constant error in the op. Set PB = $% & observe the response
of set point Vs M.V before level shifter at 10 sec sampling time.
The graph will be as shown below. From the graph it can be observed that reducing the PB &
settles the process with very small overshoot constant error.
Also it can be observed that only P controller is sufficient to settle the press The system will
oscillate with small I & D action also. Hence with APID the system settles with only P
controller.
At 5% PB with step change in set point op settles without error Only proportional control is
sufficient to settles the process.

Proportional control with step change in set point PB=5%


Proportional + Integral control with step change in set point

Connect the test setup as shown in wiring sequence. Set PB 5% and Ti 25 sec. You can observe
from the following graph. At 5%, Only there is small overshoot n the output To improve the
performance we try to add I action in the system. But there are large oscillations even at 25 sec 1
action. Hence use only controller to control the position feedback using analog PID.

Proportional + Integral control with step change in set point P =5% and Ti= 25 sec.

Conclusion:
While performing this practical we learn how to position control of analog Motor by using
Anshuman PID Kit.
