RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.

Popplet is a tool that allows users to visualize ideas. Teachers and students can create graphic organizers, timelines,
and many other forms of visual organization. Popplet's strength as a collaborative brainstorming tool, however,
should not lead teachers to overlook its usefulness as an effective presentation tool.

I am a sucker for the old “Pop-Up Video” show on VH1 which, if you haven’t seen it, was a show where music videos
played, and little annotated bubbles popped up with trivia and other witticisms relating to the video, band, or scene in
the video. Popplet uses the same visually distinct method of information bubbles to create a mindmap like interface
for collaborative works. Multiple users can work on the same map, you can import videos, and even freehand draw.

INTEGRATION IDEA - COLLABORATION

How might you integrate this resource in a lesson plan to promote collaboration among students in your classroom, or among
students and others outside of the classroom?

I could definitely see using this as a tool to be used during a group project assignment. Many times, we have different schedules
than our group members, so being able to work together remotely is of the utmost import. Additionally, with many post-school
careers requiring more collaborative works, this sort of tool can also help prepare students for how to work collaboratively with
others.

In my screenshot you can see multiple people working on the same map, indicated by color. Since it only allows one account per
email address, my desktop computer’s account (that I used to take the screenshot) was running a demo version, while my tablet
was running the real version. Normally, where it says, “your name”, it will have the username of the user that placed that bubble.
So in this case, I, from my tablet, titled the presentation after myself and uploaded a picture. A second user declared my love for
bubbles and imported a video of bubbles popping. This tool is an odd bit of fun and pretty engaging from the 20 minutes I was
playing around with it. It is tablet app and desktop driven, so students can use in class resources or home use to work on it.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
 Based on the “value-added rating scale” above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
 Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I like that the app allows multiple users to work on the same Popplet. Live documents are incredibly engaging and allow for
everyone to see precisely how much work each person has contributed. I wish there was a bit more that this app could do. For
instance, the video importing tool only allows videos from Vimeo, which is not the best nor most prolific video streaming site. But
this tool does have very user-friendly designs and its usability is such that I have no problem recommending it to an 8 th grader. As
such, I can give this app a 2 out of 3. With more integration tools and customizability, I would definitely consider upping that
score.
