How Fashion and Beauty Brands Use Influencers to Promote Their Products

Today, an abundant number of social media influencers, and national brands are taking advantage of their
high profiles to promote their products. Just follow a few fashion and beauty brands on social media, and
you will see the lavish trips that brands sponsor and invite social media influencers on. The brand invites
the influencer to join them at a vacation destination spot, often with compensation for their attendance.
Brands create itineraries, some of which include extravagant parties and gatherings, amazing meals, and
down-time for the influencers. This allows influencers to connect and build their networks, while also
supporting and promoting brands they love. It’s a win-win situation.

There are a lot of details that go into planning events for brand influencers. Take a look at brands like
Revolve. Revolve is a clothing company based in Los Angeles and selling mid to high end women’s
clothing. The brand frequently plans invitation-only influencer events, and then styles select, high profile
invitees in their clothing. After styled, the Revolve team takes many fashion-forward and cutting-edge
pictures of the influencers to post on their social media accounts. Typically, influencers will do the same,
most of the time under compensation. Revolve promotes their name in creative ways, such as putting it on
cookies, flower photography backdrops (as pictured), or posters. They use hashtags such as
#RevolveFestival, as used for their event at Coachella, for another way of promoting products. To further
inform followers, Revolve frequently utilizes Instagram stories and tags sponsored influencers.

Another brand that capitalizes upon the use of influencers is Tarte Cosmetics. The high-end, cruelty-free
makeup company often hosts what they call Tarte’s influencer getaway, where they fly influencers on
private planes, cover their food, housing, activities and offer free goodies. They utilize the hashtag
#trippinwithtarte for people to keep up with all of the events. Influencers post to their social media
platforms about all of the marvelous goodies and memories from the trip, further promoting a brand like
Tarte. This form of marketing helps brands like Tarte not only promote their products to larger groups,
but create a positive business image by showing how they take care of their customers.

Needless to say, the top fashion and beauty brands have been very smart and forward-thinking with how
they choose to promote their products. Rather than the use of traditional ads, brands like these have
chosen to utilize social media and influencers to promote their products. Integrating these influencers into
their brand image helps to expand the brand’s name in the public eye to increase traction and potential
sales from future customers.
