A. Preparation
1. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning teacher!

Okay class we are about to start ,

Are you all ready to for our new lesson for today? Yes ma’am.

B. Motivation
Okay class Imagine that you're vacuuming your
house in a hurry because you've got friends coming
over. Frustratingly, you're working hard but you're
not getting very far. You kneel down, open up the
vacuum cleaner, and pull out the bag. In a cloud of Okay ma’am.
dust.

You realize that it's full... again. Coughing, you

empty it and wonder why vacuum cleaners with
bags still exist!

That scenario will be the guide for our lesson for

today.

C. Presentation

James Dyson, inventor and founder of Dyson

vacuum cleaners, had exactly the same problem,
and he used creative problem solving to find the
answer. While many companies focused on
developing a better vacuum cleaner filter, he
realized that he had to think differently and find a
more creative solution.

So, he revised a revolutionary way to separate the

dirt from the air, and invented the world's first bag Okay ma’am.
less vacuum cleaner.

Creative problem solving (CPS) is a way of

solving problems or identifying opportunities when
conventional thinking has failed. It embrace the
use of creativity in coming up with the solutions.
Alex Osborn described this process in his book
applied imagination. Developed creative problem
solving in the 1940s, along with the term “Brain
storming”.

In its most extended and formalized form it has the

six stages shown, each with a divergent and
convergent phase.

Based on Van Gundy

1. Stage 1: Mess finding: Sensitize yourself
(scan, search) for issues (concerns,
challenges, opportunities, etc.) that need to
be tackled.

Divergent techniques include “wouldn’t it be nice

if…” and “wouldn’t it be awful if...”
-Brainstorming to identify desirable outcomes and
obstacle to be overcome.

Convergent techniques include Highlighting,

Expressed as a list (“In what ways might…”)

2. Stage 2: Data Finding: Gather information

about the problem.

Divergent techniques includes Five Ws and H

(Who, Why, What, When, Where and How)
List all your information ‘wants’ as a series of
questions; for each list possible sources of answer;
then follow these up and for each source, list what
you found.

Convergent techniques include classifying the

information gathered and also restating the
problem in the light of your richer understanding.
IV. Generalization
Okay to sum up our lesson that is discussed, can *Student answer and elaborate the topic discussed*
someone tell me their understanding on creative
problem solving? The creative problem solving shows you on how to
deal with problems in a different way that will help
you to solve it easily.

coming up with solutions.

Divergent Thinking
The secret to creating new ideas is to separate your divergent thinking from your convergent
thinking. This means generating lots and lots of options before you evaluate them. Such
brainstorming techniques are used during divergent thinking.

Convergent Thinking
At certain points in the creative process, thinking and focus needs to shift. To select the best of
our divergent options, determine their potential value. In the convergent thinking process,
choice is deliberate and conscious. Criteria are purposefully applied as we screen, select,
evaluate, and refine the options, all the while knowing that raw ideas still need development.
