Introduction

Electricity conservation refers to efforts made to decrease electricity consumption.

Electricity conservation can be completed through improved environment friendly energy

use, in conjunction with lowered electrical energy consumption and/or reduced

consumption from conventional power sources. Electric Energy is of a good deal

significance to the world. Notwithstanding the big advantages of electric powered energy,

the lack of adherence to basic policies associated with electricity use has triggered many

unfavorable consequences which includes electric shocks and electric fires. Additionally,

inefficient use of electric powered power has dire financial consequences.

Energy conservation can result in accelerated economic capital, environmental

quality, country wide security, non-public security and human comfort. Individuals and

groups that are direct buyers of strength pick out to conserve energy to minimize

electricity fees and promote financial security. Industrial and business customers can

amplify strength use efficiency to maximize profit. Standard economic concept suggests

that technological enhancements make bigger strength efficiency, as a substitute than

minimize electricity use. It is said to appear in two ways. Firstly, improved electricity

effectivity makes the use of energy extraordinarily cheaper, consequently encouraging

multiplied use. Secondly, extended electricity efficiency leads to extended monetary

growth, which pulls up energy use in the entire economy. This does no longer mean that

improved gasoline effectivity is worthless, multiplied gas effectivity enables greater

manufacturing and a higher first-rate of life.

Efficient strength use, occasionally absolutely referred to as electricity efficiency,

is the aim of efforts to minimize the amount of power required to supply merchandise and

services. For example, insulating a home or a school lets in a constructing to use much

less heating and cooling electricity to reap and preserve a at ease temperature. Installing

fluorescent lights or herbal skylights reduces the quantity of power required to reap the

equal stage of illumination compared to the use of regular incandescent light bulbs.

Compact fluorescent lights use two-thirds much less energy and can also final 6 to 10

instances longer than incandescent lights. Improvements in energy effectivity are most

often performed with the aid of adopting an extra efficient science or production process.

Saving electricity via simple measures, such as turning off lights in unused rooms

and turning down your water heater, can furnish you and the environment with a huge

vary of benefits.

One of the most instant advantages of saving electricity is the quantity of cash you

will store each month on your utility bills. Each time you turn on a light or take a shower,

you use energy, which your utility agency continues track of with meters hooked up on

your home. By the usage of less electricity, you are charged less money each month.

Another gain of the use of less electricity is the wonderful affect you can have on

the environment. Most electrical energy comes from electricity produced by fossil fuels

such as oil, herbal gas and coal. These fuels are naturally found in the earth and in most

instances require drilling or mining of the environment to be made available. These

extraction procedures come with many dangers of environmental contamination from

mining operations, drilling leaks or explosions, such as the catastrophic oil rig explosion

in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

Using less strength also reduces the quantity of transportation wanted to pass

fossil fuels from their drilling or mining site. Every shape of transportation requires fuel,

which includes trucks, planes, trains and boats. The most frequent shape of gas for these

cars is crude oil in the form of gasoline. When fuel is burned to create energy, greenhouse

fuel emissions are created. These gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, trap heat

in the atmosphere, contributing to global issues such as local weather change, states the

Environmental Protection Agency.

Once fossil fuels are transported to a power facility, some are burned to create

electricity. For example, coal is floor and mixed with hot air in order to burn at a high heat.

The warmness from the coal is used to heat boilers which power mills and create

electricity. Unfortunately, burning the coal--like burning fuel in a vehicles--creates

greenhouse gasoline emissions. By lowering the amount of electricity, you use, you

decrease the amount of electrical energy that wants to be produced, for this reason

decreasing greenhouse emissions and positively affecting the environment.

Reducing your electrical use can additionally advantage your health. For example,

turning off the tv can also encourage you or your kids to go backyard and play or do

something more active. Choosing to play board games instead of video games--saving

electricity in the process--helps make bigger the health and happiness of your family by

way of imparting time together.

Background of the Study

Energy conservation plays a significant role of lessening climate change. It helps

to substitute renewable energy for non-renewable resources. Energy conservation is

often the cheapest solution for fuel problems, and the answer to increased energy

consumption is more environmentally friendly. As we all realize, carbon dioxide acts as a

translucent substance in the air that is part of the cause of the earth's global warming, or

as a greenhouse effect, we can also term it. Global warming of our environment has its

own effects. It has its lethal consequences such as the proliferation of various diseases,

cooler oceans and storm risks, financial costs, polar ice loss, decreased chances and

heat wave severity. Ozone depletion is the reduction by chemical pollution of the ozone

layer in the uppermost atmosphere. Ozone layer is the line of defense between the earth

and the sun's ultraviolet rays. People who are more exposed to UV radiation may have

health issues such as damage to DNA, skin cancer, aging, and other skin-related issues.

There may be some potential issues that include a threat to the safety of the human

body, ecological effects such as rising sea levels, and major changes to methods of

developing vegetation. When coal is burned, it realizes Sulphur dioxide into the air and

therefore, it reacts with water and oxygen in the clouds and forms acid rain. Acid rain kills

fish and plants and damages houses and statues with calcareous rocks as well. These

types of global problems can be resolved. Based on the U.S. statistics measured

annually, they find that the fuel needs of the average family generate more than 11,200

pounds of air pollutants.

Energy conservation could lead to increased financial capital, value of the climate,

national security, personal safety and comfort of citizens. In order to reduce energy costs

and promote economic security, individuals and organizations that are direct energy

consumers choose to conserve energy. In order to maximize gain, industrial and

commercial consumers should increase energy efficiency. Standard economic theory

suggests that improvements in technology increase energy production instead of

reducing energy consumption. It is said to occur in two ways. Firstly, improved energy

efficiency makes power consumption relatively cheaper, thus promoting expanded usage.

Secondly, Increased energy production leads to increased economic growth, leading to

increased power use in the country as a whole. This does not suggest that higher fuel

consumption is useless, increased fuel output allows higher productivity and higher

quality of life. Efficient use of power, also simply referred to as energy efficiency, is the

goal of efforts to reduce the amount of energy needed to produce products and services.

For example, insulating a home enables a building to use less heating and cooling energy

to achieve a comfortable temperature and maintain it. Because we have a finite amount

of non-renewable energy resources left on Earth, saving power from our current supply

or using renewable resources is very necessary so that it is still accessible to our future

generations. Energy conservation plays a very important role as the climate is also

influenced by the use of non-renewable resources. In particular, the use of fossil fuels for

air and water pollution such as carbon dioxide is produced when the combustion of oil,

coal and gas in power plants, heating systems and car engines.

The International Energy Agency considers the most important energy source to

be energy efficiency. This subject has been dedicated to a significant part of its World

Energy Outlook (WEO) 2013. This is the proof that energy efficiency has recently received

increased attention. Energy efficiency is heavily featured in public papers as policymakers

seek to reduce excessive energy use, boost energy security, and reduce greenhouse gas

emissions. Energy efficiency is not a problem that is only addressed in individual

countries, but it is also a topic that concerns supranational bodies like the United Nations

(UN). The main objective of this study was to further expand the sections devoted to

energy consumption, energy savings and energy efficiency. The word "power savings"

applies, as stated in the introduction of this report, the impact of the use of technology

and techniques that reduce the amount of energy consumed. Therefore, we interpret

energy savings as a quantity of energy saved after adopting other steps; we calculate the

energy saved by calculating and evaluating usage before and after introducing one or

more measures.

In Article 2 (5) of Directive 2012/27/EU5, energy savings is specified within the EU

as follows: energy savings implies a quantity of saved energy calculated by calculating

and/or estimating usage before and after the introduction of an energy efficiency

improvement program, thus maintaining standardization of external conditions

concerning energy consumption. [Directive of the European Union, 2012]

The choice of Batangas State University as the research location was convinced

by the high level of energy use on campus, the variety of energy consumption, and the

diversity of people there. Batangas State University has students from various

backgrounds, including political, religious, economic and cultural back grounds.

Therefore, a study at this location provides a proper representation of what is required in

other academic institutions. The research goal was achieved by conducting a survey and

then evaluating it. The research was conducted by survey administration. The

questionnaire focused on three specific topics, namely, understanding of energy

efficiency in the use of various product loads, willingness to participate in energy

efficiency practices, and present participation in energy efficiency practices. Regarding

the understanding of energy efficiency in consumer charges, the questionnaire was

designed to identify students ' comprehension of energy efficiency in the use of the

following product charges: refrigerators, electronic devices, heating equipment, and air

conditioners.

Summary of Findings

Conserving electricity is a one big help in order to preserve the natural resources

and the environment and thus the researchers focusses on the topic about conservation

of energy within the community of Batangas State University and research about the

condition, status and how do the community within this University practices the

conservation of electricity.

Through the research that was conducted out of 50 responses there are 60 %

female and 40 % male and was found out that all the respondents whether it is male or

female conserve electricity at the Batangas State University. The researchers also found

out that the single most effective way to conserve electricity at the University is when

students are in laboratory or classrooms, they switch off the lights, aircon and fans before

leaving their classrooms or laboratory. The researchers discover that conservation

protects national energy security by reducing our dependence on foreign sources of oil is

the most impact on our economy. Another thing is that by conserving electricity it also

conserves the limited natural resources which will be a great benefit for the next

generation that will live and use this limited natural resource that was been preserved.

The single most effective behavior that the respondents do which has the highest

percentage is they turn off lights when not in use.

Looking generally to other effects of conserving the energy like climate change,

most of the respondents answers a fair amount on how much concerned they was on the

climate change that is happening around the world. The researches also notice that the

51% of the respondents answers a fair amount oh how concerned they are on the future

price rise in energy. As was found earlier that all the respondents are conserving

electricity, they answer a fair amount on how they thought about the saving energy at the

university. The researchers learned that it is fair amount on how the respondents are

concerned on the electricity shedding at peak. For the last discovery of the researchers

about conservation of electricity within the Batangas State University, the researchers

found out that not all the respondents are worried in the increase of electricity demand in

their community and 46.9 % said that there is a lot of worries in them and 38.8 % said

that a fair amount and 12 % said that they do not worry very much on the increase of

electricity demand in the community which is somehow a downfall for the help of

conserving electricity.

Conclusion

Electricity is something that we all live by whether we notice it or not, some of us

wouldn’t be able to survive without it because it is a must needed source to our everyday

lives. It is used to help save people, in education, hospitals, and cities. We live by this

incredible creation that mother nature has given us, and we have been able to control it

with our very own hands throughout centuries. In addition, it is a very important natural

resources, people should always try to consume less for it is not free at all. Energy

conservation can only be achieved either by using energy more efficiently or by reducing

the amount of service used. Based on the gathered results, we therefore conclude that

the students of Batangas State University is well aware on their consumption of electricity

inside the vicinity. Students are also aware on what should be done to lessen their

consumption. Thus, the students care for the environment because energy is essential in

our life and they are thinking ahead on what would eventually help in protecting our

environment.

Recommendation

Doing the study, the researcher come up with the recommendations for those who

will benefit in the study.

1. Because the findings were decided in the survey conducted at the Batangas State

University Alangilan Campus students, it is important to remind students of the

significance of conserving energy not only on campus but in our daily lives. It not only

does it cuts electricity bills, it also protects national assets, maintains natural resources,

lowers climate change, and also saves the biodiversity. The researchers therefore

recommend that students should always practice energy conservation inside and outside

the campus. If ever there are students who are don’t usually had any practices in energy

conserving, professors, instructors and staffs must teach their students. The school must

also perform regular energy saving practices for the students, instructors, professors and

staffs.

2. The researchers also observed that rooms that has air conditions are not the ‘energy

conserving’ or energy efficient appliances that uses less energy. Instead of using the

conventional and outdated air conditioning unit and equipment which suck up a lot of

energy from the atmosphere, the researchers recommend switching on the use of energy-

saving and energy-efficient devices to reduce energy consumption. Where it not only

takes up less energy, but it has been observed that even for years of use it has a longer

life span when properly handled.

3. Students must have prior knowledge of the tips for energy conservation and when there

is a plan of energy conservation, they must collaborate on the simulation. Energy saving

appliances or Energy efficient appliances must be handled and taken care properly by

the students because they mostly are the ones who uses rooms and the said appliances.

4. Campus instructors and professors have the biggest responsibility to disseminate

information and understanding to students about the value of energy conservation and

energy conservation tips. They need to acquire basic or different knowledge about energy

conservation in order to be the students ' guide not only to make these practices

mandatory, but also to make it a habit for the students to share these knowledges with

their fellow students.

5. For the future researchers that would like to tackle the electricity or energy conserving

practices for students. They must include the value of energy conservation in their study,

the effects that energy conservation has on people in the community and on the

ecosystem.
