Introduction
Despite strong environmental activism among Filipinos, the Philippines still suffers

from a trash problem. It has been observed that several local government units are

struggling to implement the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000” or RA

9003 which was signed into law in 2001. The Philippines has a good solid waste

management law, but a lot more can be done in terms of implementation. It has

provisions for solid waste reduction and avoidance through recycling, composting, and

other methods before disposal in the appropriate facilities.

As for Barangay Poblacion II, the survey conducted among 99 residents showed

that the Barangay is suffering from unclean surroundings due to wastes. They are not

practicing proper wastes segregation. In addition, flooding is experienced by the

residents in lower areas of the barangay. To help the barangay, we will conduct activities

that aim to provide the residents with a better living condition and promote

environmental awareness.
Vision

To create a clean and safe environment for the people of Barangay Poblacion II, and

awareness about proper wastes management and promote discipline among residents.

Goal

To provide a better living condition for the residents of the barangay through proper

wastes segregation.

Objectives

To promote environmental awareness and encourage every residents to be responsible

in their wastes.
Assessment Result

We, the students of Civic Welfare Training Service, conducted a survey to the

residents of Barangay Poblacion II, to know the environmental issues or concerns that

they are facing in the area and the disaster risk profile of the community.

Based on the survey we conducted among the 99 respondents, we found out that

low land areas as indicated by 73 respondents, experience flooding. Meanwhile the

other 27 respondents said that they do not experience flooding in their area despite

having experienced typhoon or heavy rains. Flooding is said to worsen due improper

wastes disposal of residents in barangay.

Moreover based on the survey regarding the disaster risk profile of the community,

we found out that the common problems encountered in the barangay are polluted

surroundings with 35%, improper waste disposal with 30%, clogged canals with 25%,

and illegal logging with 10%. The disease that has a great effect on the residents is

dengue with 67%; leptospirosis and fungi have the least effect on the people. We found

out that the elderly, with 33%, are the most affected by the hazards followed by the

children with 30%; the women has 22%, rating while the men has 15% rating.

Project Duration: This is the time table of our project divided into three (3) hours per
day with a total of nine (9) hours.

Project Venue : Barangay Poblacion II, Sta. Cruz, Laguna

Barangay Poblacion II, is a barangay in the municipality of Santa Cruz, in the province

of Laguna. Its population as determined by

the 2015 Census was 1,672.

barangay.
Project Objectives

 To reduce the number of wastes in the area

 To encourage the residents to practice wastes segregation

 To make the children feel the essence of Christmas

Expected Measurable Outcomes

 The wastes in the barangay will be lessened

 The residents will practice proper wastes segregation

 The children will feel the essence of Christmas

Project Process

These are activities that will help the residents in the barangay to achieve our goal

and objectives.

Project Budget

The total of amount of money we are going to spend is estimated at Php. 1,000

or less for both the community service and the outreach program.

Project Evaluation Tools

The tool that we will use to measure the effectiveness of the project we proposed in

the barangay is a survey and will be rated as Excellent, Very good, Good, Fair and

Poor. The following criteria will be evaluated:

 Effectiveness on people in the community during and after the project

Feeding Program

The team selected a 30 children in the street in barangay Poblacion II and we will

going to have atleast (2) two activities that will focusing on the proper waste

management segregation and give them knowledge about the Go, Glow and Grow

foods. Then after that we are about to feed them with lots of healthy foods.

Signages

√ These will provide simple reminders to the residents of the barangay.

be made and placed on the

7 streets of barangay

Poblacion II.

Recyclable Trashcans

√ The recyclable trashcans are made out of bamboo which will serve as stand of

the sack or garbage bag.

√ These recyclable trashcans will be placed on 2 streets of Poblacion II where

many people are passing by: A. Kamatoy St. and A. Mabini St.
