Narrator  

After  a  ten  year  battle  in  the  Trojan  War,  Odysseus  and  his  soldiers  set  sail  to  go  back  home  to  the  
Kingdom  of  Ithica  
 
(Enter  Odysseus  and  his  men  with  cheers,  super  energetic  entrance  all  sing)

Narrator  
They  had  a  long  journey  ahead  of  them.  As  they  began  their  travels  the  god  Poseidon  caused  a  great  
storm  that  causes  them  to  have  to  land  at  Scheria,  home  of  the  Phaeacians.  The  princess  Nausicaa,  the  
Phaeacian  princess,  shows  him  to  the  royal  palace,  and  Odysseus  receives  a  warm  welcome  from  the  king  
and  queen.  They  promise  to  give  him  safe  passage  to  Ithaca,  but  first  they  beg  to  hear  the  story  of  his  
adventures.  
 
Odysseus  
Well  first  we  went  to  the  land  of  the  Lotus  Eaters,  and  if  you  ate  their  fruit  you  would  lose  your  memory.

(Some  of  the  men  eat  the  fruit)  
 
Narrator  
As  soon  as  they  eat  this  fruit,  they  lose  all  thoughts  of  home  and  long  for  nothing  more  than  to  stay  there  
eating  more  fruit.  
 
Odysseus  
Come  on  men.    I  said  come  on!  
 
(some  of  the  men  do  not  budge,  Odysseus  and  his  men,  who  did  not  eat  the  fruit,  drag  the  others  off  
stage)  
 
Narrator  
The  men  escape  the  lotus  eaters  and  eventually  the  effects  of  the  fruit  wear  off.    
They  resume  their  journey  and  land  on  the  island  of  Cyclopes.  They  approach  the  cave  of  Polyphemus,  
just  as  Cyclops  is  approaching  with  his  sheep.    
 
Cyclops  
Who  Goes  there?  
 
Odysseus  
It  is  Odysseus  and  my  men,  we  need  your  help,  we  have  brought  you  a  gift  to  show  our  appreciation.    
 
Cyclops  
I  have  a  better  idea,  I  will  eat  you!!    But  there  are  too  many  so  I  will  lock  you  in  my  cave  and  save  you  for  
later.

That  evening  Cyclops  invites  Odysseus  to  a  large  banquet

(music  solo  for  about  5  seconds)  
 
WOW  SLEEP  SOUNDS  GOOD  RIGHT  NOW

(Cyclops  falls  asleep)  
 
Narrator  
Odysseus  drives  a  sharp  stake  through  the  giant’s  eye.    
 
Cyclops  
Owe,  who  did  this?  
 
Odysseus

Odysseus  and  his  men  then  tie  themselves  to  the  bottom  of  the  sheep  and  slip  out  the  next  morning.      
 
Cyclops  
(throwing  boulders  at  the  men  as  they  sail  away)  
I’ll  get  you,    Nobody!!!  
 
 
(Enter  Cyclop’s  friends)  
 
Friend  
Your  eye,  what  happened,  who  blinded  you  Cyclops?  
 
Cyclops  
Nobody  
 
Friend

(Yelling  from  his  ship  as  he  leaves)  
 
I  am  the  one  who  blinded  you,  I  am  Odysseus!  
Narrator  
 Odysseus  and  his  men  then  set  sail  for  Aeaea,  home  of  the  beautiful  witch-­‐goddess  Circe.    
 
Circe

Circe  
Now  you  are  mine,  here  piggy,  piggy.

 Hermes  
Odysseus,  here  take  this  herb  it  is  called  Moly,  it  will  protect  you  and  your  men  from  Circe’s  drug.    
 
 
 
Narrator  
Odysseus  defeats  Circe  and  persuades  her  to  turn  everyone  back  to  men.  He  and  Circe  make  peace  and  
after  a  long  stay  they  move  on.    
 
 
 
Circe  
Be  sure  to  follow  my  advice  and  above  all  things  watch  out  for  those  sirens,  don’t  listen  to  anything  they  
say  -­‐  they  are  nothing  but  trouble.    
 
Narrator  
They  approach  the  island  of  the  Sirens  
 
 
Odysseus  
Here  men,  stuff  beeswax  in  your  ears,  now  tie  me  to  the  mast  of  the  ship  and  I  alone  will  hear  the  song  of  
the  Sirens  and  navigate  us  through.    
 
Song  7:  Odysseus  Come  Here  (underscore  music  with  spoken  dialogue)  
 
Sirens

Narrator  
They  make  it  past  the  Sirens,  and  continue  on  their  journey  with  a  few  other  obstacles,  finally  they  arrive  
home.
