GUIDE CARD

HELLO YOUNG LEARNERS!

Do you know about triangles? Can
you tell when the two triangles
are congruent? Let’s find out how
to prove congruent triangles
applying the various postulates
and theorems.
INTRODUCTION
The two figures are congruent if they have exactly
the same size and shape. The congruent figures have

congruent sides and angles. The congruence between

two sides and angles is shown by the symbol .
Triangles are congruent when they have exactly the
same three sides and exactly the same three angles.

It means that one shape can become another using Turns,

Flips and/or Slides:

GUIDE CARD

MAIN TASK:

PROVE THAT THE TWO TRIANGLES

ARE CONGRUENT

SUB-TASKS:

1. Identify congruent triangles.

2. Determine the postulates and
theorems related to triangle
congruence.
3. Using the postulates and theorems
for triangle congruence, prove that
the given triangles are congruent.
Now,
analyze
the given
pictures
and
answer the
questions

 Why do architects use triangles when building bridges, roofs on

houses, and other structures? Why not a quadrilateral, why not
a pentagon?
 What types of triangles do you noticed in the construction of
the bridge? What do you noticed about the size and shape of
the triangles
Have you heard about congruent triangles?
When can you say that the two triangles are
congruent? Do you know of any postulate
and theorem about triangle congruence?
ACTIVITY CARD

Activity 1: Discovering Congruent Triangles

Question: What do we need to know to prove

triangles congruent?
Materials needed: straws, protractor or ruler, paper,
and construction paper

Set up:

 Cut straws into the following lengths:

 2 straws 8 cm in length
 2 straws 11 cm in length
 2 straws 5 cm in length
 Measure 2 angles of 80 degrees, 2 angles of 60 degrees, and 2 angles 40
degrees on the
corners of 3 different colored pieces of construction paper, cut them out, and
label them.

Procedure: Follow the instructions below and draw conclusions

Part 1
1. Put the 3 straws of different lengths together to form a triangle as shown.
2. Form another triangle with the other set of straws.
3. Measure the angles of both triangles using a protractor (tracing the shapes may
make this easier).
4. Use the straws to try to form triangles with different angles.

Questions:
1. What are the measures of the 3 angles in the first triangle? _________________
2. What are the measures of the 3 angles in the second triangle? _____________
3. What is the relationship between the angles of each triangle? ______________
4. Are the triangles congruent? __________ Why? ____________________
5. Can the straws be rearranged to form a triangle with different angles? ________

Conclusion:
What can we conclude about triangle congruence?

that The Penrose
Triangle is one of
the most famous
“impossible objects.” It can
be drawn in two dimensions
but cannot be created in
three dimensions.

Activity 2: CREATE ME

This time form a group of 5 members. With your

groupmates, construct a Penrose Triangle using colored
construction papers and glue. Be cooperative.

Rubrics:
 Correctness of Work –5
 Neatness/Attractiveness –5
 Group Cooperation -5

15
Awesome work! You did a good job in your previous activities! You
have shown cooperation with your groupmates. Very good!

This time, you are to work independently. Recalling that there are five
ways to find if two triangles are congruent: SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS and
HL. Now, try to complete all the problems and determine if the triangles
are congruent. Also, state the proof that can be used to determine the
congruent relationship.

ACTIVITY 3: Proving Triangle Congruence. Prove that the pairs

of triangles are congruent using SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS and HL

you can do it right!
