LAB REPORT #2
WEATHERING AND EROSION EXPERIMENT
Student Name: Professor:
Section: Date:

I. INTRODUCTION

II. OBJECTIVES
1. Distinguish physical from chemical weathering, and describe the products of each.
2. Explain the tendency of some rock types to form cliffs whereas others form gentle slopes.
3. Understand the concept of Weathering and Erosion.

III. MATERIALS
 Aluminum Pan or Storage Box
 Blower
 3 Plastic Bottle (1.5 L) (Cut into cross-section form)
 Sand (Aprox. 1-2 kilos)
 Soil (Aprox. 1-2 kilos)
 Grass that still intact with the soil
 Dried leaves
 3 Beaker (150 mL)
 Card Board (1/2 Index Card)

IV. A. PROCEDURE (Erosion)

1. Place the sand and soil into the 3 plastic bottles. On the first bottle put the sand
and soil together, on second bottle put the sand, soil and dried leaves together, and
on the third bottle put the sand, soil and grass.

3. Kindly record your observation and draw some illustrations on what happen.

B. PROCEDURE (Weathering)

4. Put the sand and soil on the storage box and fix the sand and soil into down slope
form.
5. Pour the water on the side of sand and soil. Using the Index card, make a little
wave until the sand and soil loose its form.
C. PROCEDURE (Wind Weathering)
6. Put the sand and soil on the storage box and form it into slope-mountain like form.
7. Using the blower, direct the blower into the slope and observe what will happen.
