Reflection Paper Assignment

This class was very helpful in teaching us lots of useful techniques in technology and how to use

specific programs. There are several aspects as to where I feel I benefitted from taking this

course. This is a class that can be useful to anyone of any age, major, or gender and provides

skills that you could use in your day to day life. I have always held some skills with Microsoft

and Google but not anything more than what you would learn in high school. I used Excel and

PowerPoint in the past but some of the functions we learned in this course I had never used

before. I had no knowledge of video editing, coding, or making a screencast until now and didn’t

quite understand how it was all possible. Many of these programs were very intimidating to me

and seemed difficult, until I was taught otherwise. Something I’ve always struggled with is

technology and getting it to work how I wanted it to, so this class has helped in that and built on

my confidence in using it. After this class, I have realized that you can do so much with

technology and make certain aspects of it easier on yourself along the way.

In my future career, which will be teaching as a professor, I will be needing to use quite a bit of

technology and a variety of programs. One of the more useful templates taught were shared

Google Docs, which are helpful when sharing info that needs editing by multiple people. This

allows many people to share one document with others and be able to edit or add to the work.

Another thing I found that was super useful was how to make a poll. It is something that will be

helpful when teaching in a class of many students and trying to get a consensus of specific

thoughts. Sometimes you need something that is confidential for groups of people, or looking for

a place to gather data from; creating a poll allows you to do so while keeping it simplified. I

think the most useful tool out of all was learning how to build a website and maintaining it. In

my field, which is the arts, having a great website is one of the most important tools of marketing

for yourself. By not looking professional this can deter people away from you, so knowing how

to properly make a website is a necessary tool as a successful artist. Not only are these

technologies helpful but will be something I can take with me after this class.

It was nice being able to take a class that was able to teach me actual skills versus something that

I would forget almost immediately. There are a few aspects from this class that I will not use but

overall, I am likely to use a great deal of the information I learned. It shows that anyone can use

these programs and get professional looking result. Knowing how to use each platform allows

you to personalize everything that you choose to make while still keeping each task simple.

Through creating the online portfolio and studying the types of software’s available I feel more

adequate in navigating such programs in the future. I feel comfortable in that I can now work

these programs and software’s with confidence and be able to show others how to do the same.
