Coming into this computer literacy class, I thought I had a pretty good knowledge about

computers and their common uses, but I learned way more than I could have imagined. Not only

did this class benefit my computer skills, but refreshed me on many tools I had once learned

before. Reviewing the goals and objectives of this class as a whole, there were easily three that

stuck out to me.

The first goal that stuck out to me was that throughout the course of the semester and

doing projects on Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, it was a constant reminder that these files do

not save on their own. This relates to goal #3. With the habit of using these programs, I was

frequently saving my projects and assignments as I went along, in case something caused the

computer to freeze and lose the data. I was continuously backing up my information and saving

as I go., which was a great habit to form due to the fact that my computer had actually crashed a

few times while working on big assignments. This class really helped me in that sense.

A second goal that I achieved in this class was that of goal #9, which relates to

understanding and analyzing the use of technology through social and ethical issues. As social

media and communicating is my major, this course really helped me dig deeper in ways that

social media can be used for more than just fun. I even made a presentation during the web 2.0

module describing how businesses can benefit from using social platforms to engage potential

clients as well as gain a bigger audience as well as skyrocket engagement. The mobile app

review also played a role in this, and determining what stands out about business applications

and what makes their profiles and pages unique. Especially now more than ever, businesses are

communicating through technology and the importance of computer literacy is so important!

The third goal I achieved throughout this semester is goal #11. This goal relates to

creating our portfolio and showcasing the projects over the course of the semester. At first, I

wasn’t sure how this would go because I have never thought of myself to be a very creative eye.

But, looking through my portfolio, it gave me a great head start in learning how to graphic

design and customize pages how I want them to look. I felt that my personality really shined

throughout my portfolio, as well as my projects this semester. This class really helped me learn

that it is fun to get creative and add your own touch on things!

After taking this course, I have found myself to have a much better knowledge of

technology and truly do feel a lot more empowered using it. I also feel even more comfortable

knowing this information, as a lot of it applies to what I want to do with my future, which

revolves around social and digital media. I gained a lot of computer awareness across the course

of the past few months and can take so much away from this course and apply it throughout my

life as well as future career.
