Lesson Objectives:
● Students will demonstrate an understanding of the difference between instrumental
families.
● Students will demonstrate an understanding of the construction of instrument family
types.
● Students will demonstrate an understanding of transposing instruments.
LESSON ACTIVITIES
Introductory Activity: Anticipatory Set (Activity that connects the new concepts/objectives to
previous knowledge):
● Students will listen to a short selection of Beethoven Symphony No. 6 Mvt. V
o Time allotted: 1.5 min
Concluding Activity (final activity of the lesson that that pulls together all of the concepts from
the lesson in a musical success experience)
● Students will participate in a pop quiz on what instruments are in what families.
o Time allotted: 4 minutes
Extensions:
● If time allows, students will continue the pop quiz with verbal questions by family name
rather than by image.
