Gummy Bear Lab

Hypothesis: I think the gummy bear in the distilled water will dissolve an the gummy bear in
the salt won’t.

Mass Length Width

Measurement 2.4 grams (g) each 2 centimeters (cm) 1 cm each
each

Result

Mass Length Width

Distilled Water Bear 13.026606 g 3.4 cm 1.2 cm
Salt Water Bear 5.38641 g 2 cm 1 cm
Observations: The gummy bear in the distilled water grew in size and kept its color, while
the gummy bear in salt water lost its color but stayed the same size. Before
After Before After

Conclusion: The gummy bear in the distilled water were submerged within a hypotonic solution
while osmosis occurred. Some dye diffused out of the gummy bear. The gummy bear submerged in
the salt water had dye that diffused out into the salt water while some salt water was
diffused into the gummy bear.

Iodine Dialysis Lab

Hypothesis: I think the iodine will diffuse into the dialysis bag while some starch diffuses
out.

Bag Mass: 47.83 g

Result: Bag Mass: 47.7 g

Observations: The starch diffused out of the dialysis bag while the iodine diffused in and
turned the liquid inside purple. The starch that didn’t diffuse out of the bag sunk down to
the bottom.

Before
After
Conclusion: The starch diffused out of the bag while the iodine diffused into the bag and
reacted with the starch still in the bag.

Egg Lab
Hypothesis: I think the egg will enlarge.

Egg Mass: 71.64 g

Observation: The egg is yellowish and opaque. Eggs like to kamikaze out of their shell and
into the void that is death. Only 2 survived.
Before experiment

Result: It lost a lot of liquid and looks like a plastic bag. It looks like it had air pumped
out of it. The egg is still opaque and yellowish
After 1 day in corn syrup

Egg mass: 40.96 g

Results (Day 2): The egg is like Jell-O. It looks like it got blown up again. The water must
have been soaked up by the egg. The egg is still opaque and yellowish. After1 day in
water

Egg mass: 86.56 g

Conclusion: When placed in corn syrup, a hypertonic solution, the liquid in the egg diffuses
out. When placed back in water, a hypo tonic solution, osmosis occurs and the egg grows back
its original size.

Jell-O Lab
Hypothesis: I think the dyes will branch out and combine with other dyes.

Observation: There are 4 green holes, 1 blue, and 3 yellow/red. The dyes sink into the holes
a few seconds after being released from the bottle. Jell-O Mass: 36.6 g

Results: The Dyes spread out and combined with each other. Some of them turned black due to
color combinations. The bottoms of the dye wells turned black no matter what. Jell-O
Mass: 37.1 g

Conclusion: The dyes diffused through the Jell-O and the create color combinations that weren’t
originally there.
