DETAIL INSPECTION NECESSARY TO DETERMINE SERVICEABILITY OF AN


AIRSPEED INDICATOR AND ITS ASSOCIATES SYSTEMS ON A PREFLIGHT
INSPECTION – EASA MODULE 13-33-2

1. Consult the maintenance manual for checks and inspections to be carried out
2. Remove all pitot and static covers
3. Check the pitot-static vents for obstruction, damage and correct alignment
4. Check the security and damage of electrical cables, pipelines and their associate
connections
5. Check for contamination of the electrical cables and connectors
6. Inspect the instrument cases and glasses for cracks and damage
7. Check that the instrument markings are legible, in their correct position and check
that the pointer/indicators are reading correctly
8. Check for presence of moisture within the instruments
9. “Bloomed” (Bluish Tint) instrument covers must not be scratched and any
fingerprints removed using a lint free cloth with approved isopropyl alcohol cleaning
agent
10. Set the altimeter QFE giving allowance for actual height of the aircraft above field
height
11. Check the airspeed indicator and vertical speed indicator for zero
12. Check smoothness of pointer movement when adjusting the barometric scale
13. Check the operation of failure flags
14. Check the operation of any vibrator units that are strapped to the instruments
15. Check the operation of the electrical anti-icing heaters
16. Carry out any BITE checks on Air Data Computers or transducers
17. Once all systems and preflight inspections are concluded satisfactorily a preflight

techlog entry should be made
