TITLE : REALITY : FREEDOM

GRADE & SECTION : GRADE 12 – STEM ST. FROILAN

NAME : JAMAICA B. DELA CRUZ

As human beings, our common notion of reality is simply a way of looking at the world,
rather than the knowledge of how the world really is. It is about experiencing what is tangible,
perceptible and genuine. Reality, in the real sense of the word, is preconceived by different
people. Each person has his/her own delineation of it.
Reality is something that is being treated as a fact and something that is occurring in
actuality. It is something that is not an illusion, not a fantasy or not imaginary. Reality is the
things in life that are normally observed and verified to exist. It is something that is perceived as
real and is physically experienced by the senses. Reality is about the things that we can do, to the
best of our knowledge, figure out and define by ways of scientific research and experience. It is
about stretching the edges of our beliefs about the world and universe where we live in.
Reality can also mean “which appears to be.” It can be recognized through various
channels, it can be through what we see something with our eyes, what we hear with our ears,
what we smell something with our nose or what we touch something with our hands. Reality can
only consist of man’s interpretation of the sensory perceptions he receives.
Reality arises from a consciousness of us living in a world which seems to be outside of
our conscious life. Our reflections lead us to wonder if we can know of the world beyond our
perceptions. Reality is all of your experiences that determine how things appear to you. The state
of the world as it really is rather than as you might want it to be.
Even though each person experiences reality differently from one person to the other, this
does not change the reality of the situation. Reality is learning about what our current state is.
You can pretend that you don't live in reality, but that does not change reality, it only changes
how you experience reality. We don't change reality; we change, as we learn more about what
our reality is at this current time, but not necessarily what reality will be like tomorrow.
Now what is the reality about our freedom? As we all know, freedom is the power to act,
speak or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. It comes in many forms: freedom of
expression, freedom of speech, freedom of religion or freedom of the press. Freedom can mean
understanding choices. Those choices can either harm us or help us. Freedom can be best defined
as being given a variety of choices and actually knowing what said choices entail.
But how do we define freedom in our society? Without a doubt, freedom seems to be one
of the things taken for granted nowadays. We know the word but strangely we never knew the
realities and responsibilities attached to it.
One of the freedom we are endowed with is the right to choose the best leaders who will
run our government. We are aware of the reality that whoever politician we put into the position
will create a big impact in our society. However, people do not decide justly and wisely. We let
politicians screw our minds up by simply buying our votes and allowing them to mislead us by
their black propagandas. Everything seems to be just a promise or vow, vow to fight for hunger
and poverty. Unfortunately, the government used all of this red tape to make the life of the
common Filipino more difficult and miserable. It is for us Filipinos to really realize how we
make sense of our freedom. At the end of the day, it is still us who will be affected by our
choices.
Not only is our freedom tested when it comes to putting the right people in position. Our
freedom continues to falter in many areas of our society. There is the freedom of the press,
freedom of life/human rights (where killing seems to be normal nowadays) and freedom to own
what the Philippines ought to own issues concerning territories. All these haunt us today. But
Filipinos do not make a stand on these. They continue to become slaves of a society that seems
to slowly rot.
But how do we go about fighting for our freedom?
Unless we make a conscious effort to use our freedom wisely and act on it, we can never
make a progressive and unconventional country a reality.
