Province Science High School during the School
Years 2019-2020
Statement of the Problem

This study will be conducted to determine the ramifications of skipping meals in

the academic performance of Grade 8 students of Batangas Province Science High

School. Specifically, it intends to provide a clear stand on the following issues:

1. What is the profile variable of the respondents in relation to:

1.1 Family monthly income

1.2 Occupation

1.3

2. What is the number of students who skip meals?

3. What are the causes of skipping meals of students?

4. What are the effects of skipping meals of students?

5. What are the possible recommendations that may be done in improving this

study?

Significance of the Study

The result of the study could help benefit the students, teachers, parents,

administrators and researchers.

STUDENTS. The result of the study could help the students to comprehend the lessons

and prevent skipping meals.

TEACHERS. This study will be able to help the teachers to ease their way of teaching

the students.
PARENTS. The result of the study can help the parents to lessen their worries about

their children during school days.

Scope, Limitations and Delimitations

This study will focus on how skipping meals affect the academic performance of

Grade 8 students of Batangas Province Science High School.

The study will not cover the other students of Batangas Province Science High

School such as the Grade 7, 9 and 10 students. It also does not seek to include the

effects of skipping meals to their personal health.

However, this study will cover certain factors such as the interest of the students

in their food, how busy they might be and their socioeconomic status to determine how

it affects the number of meals a student skips.

Hypothesis

The main hypothesis states that skipping meals do not affect the academic

performance of Grade 8 students of Batangas Province Science High School. These

factors are the basis of the hypothesis that was proposed for testing the relationship of

skipping meals and academic performance.

1. There is no significant relationship between the number of meals skipped to

the academic performance of Grade 8 students of Batangas Province

Science High School.


2. There is no significant difference between the academic performance of

students who skip meals and students who do not skip meals.

3. The factors such as the interest of the students in their food, how busy they

might be and their socioeconomic status do not affect the affect the number of

meals skipped by Grade 8 students.

Research Methodology

In this study, the researchers will use a descriptive method in conducting the

study. The researchers will choose participants within the Grade 8 students of Batangas

Province Science High School specifically using a random sampling method. The

instruments that will be used by the researchers are questionnaires and observation.

to conduct a study entitled “The Effects of Skipping Meals on Academic Performance of

Grade 8 Students at Batangas Province Science High School during the school year

2019-2020”. This study will be conducted to determine the major reasons of skipping
meals and its effects on academic performance. We would like to ask permission to

distribute questionnaires to gather the perceptions of students in this study. If consent is

given, the study will be conducted when both the researchers and participants are free

in doing the said task. Participation will not be compulsory and may leave questions

unanswered if it requires confidential information. This study will be done for academic

purposes and will ensure confidentiality and anonymity for the participants.

Interest- food preference of the students

Socioeconomic Status- economic and sociological combined total

measure of a person's work experience and of an individual's or family's

economic and social position in relation to others.
