Student’s Encumbrance By: Jerome S. Raut

Today has been a busy long day. I have been stuck
in my thoughts of curiosity. Questions have been
crashing around my mind, as I have observed a lot
of students walking, talking, and laughing. In the
midst of my observation, something has caught my
attention; it is the mixed expression of audacity and
pusillanimity. I clearly see the struggling mind and
heart that each student has striven to overcome. I
look at every student inside the campus that reach
the range of my sight, and see their burden related to
each other, as well as mine.
Burden is always part of the students’ lives; it may
be academic, financial, or personal problems. The
struggle is real when the student is bombarded with
school activities, plus the school responsibilities,
especially when financial instability adds; it seems
like there’s no tomorrow, only today. In addition, it
is always true that personal affairs truly affect the
innermost impetus of a student. The desire and
target to wear the magnificent black toga, obtain the
marvelous diploma, and to have bravura procession
toward the finish line is still vague, when burden
strikes. It is tongue – in – cheek that burden is like
a brilliant worldly possessions, so attractive, so
alluring, that could seduce an individual to relinquish
someone’s ambition or a student’s goal. It is
undesirable, but can be an option to those who are
faint – hearted.
Thus, have a focused aspiration in life. Do not be
half – baked. Problems are meant to be experienced
and solved by everybody. There is a solution to every
problem, and there is one best key in every struggle,
that is to remain faithful and optimistic to the target,
stick to the goal, do not detour.

SVPDC Holds the 34th College
Commencement Exercises
By: Ian Karlo D. Sarte
Graduation ceremonies are sometimes considered as a coming-of-age for us Filipinos. On this
day, March 26, 2019, 4th year college students as well as the 2 – year Midwifery students from
the Saint Vincent De Paul Diocesan College celebrate their very own graduation ceremony.
This is the day in which we say farewell to the men and women who has achieved this life –
changing accomplishment.
The day has started early for the graduates with a Baccalaureate Mass at 8 A.M. at the SVPDC
Gymnasium. The mass grants the graduates, together with their parents, the time to thank
God for the blessings and guidance that they have received during their time studying and
shaping their selves to be what they have been dreamed of, and those dreams have started in
this institution. It also enables the teachers to pray for their students in the coming days that
come before them.
After the mass, the ceremony has begun with the processional march of the proud graduates
and parents; faculty and staff; college dean, Dr. Roberta L. Omas-as; commencement speaker;
college president Rev. Fr. Edgar Bonette B. Clar; and the bishop emeritus of the diocese of
Tandag, Most Rev. Nerio Odchimar. Students from the colleges of Business Management,
Midwifery, and Education, clad in black toga and mortarboard hats and chests adorned with
pinned corsages with their parents at their side proudly displaying themselves for the people
to see them for their achievement. With the last student walking to his seat, the National
Anthem and the SVPDC Hymn have been sung. After that, the program chair of the College
of Business Management (CBM), Maam Loida Gorospe gratefully accepted everybody in her
welcome address. Then, Dr. Roberta L. Omas-as, the College Dean, presents the candidates
for graduation, which is then confirmed as official graduates of this school by the school
President, Rev. Fr. Edgar Bonette B. Clar. After that, Maam Elizabeth Angel introduces the
commencement speaker, who is the Regional Director of CHED Caraga Region, Dr. Leonida S.
Calagui; our institution is fortunate enough to have her as our speaker for this ceremony. But,
due to unwanted occurrence, she asks somebody close to her to deliver her inspiring message
to the graduates of Saint Vincent de Paul Diocesan College.

Afterward, the holding ceremony of the graduates is conducted through their beloved parents.
It can be seen in each parent’s face the happiness that cannot be bought by any amount; which
is followed by the distribution of diplomas, certificates, and alumni ID by the bishop emeritus
of Tandag, Most. Rev. Nerio P. Odchimar. Seeing the graduates walk smartly on the stage as
they receive the fruit of their labour, make the teachers proud as they have produced upright
people who will be useful in the society. Thenceforth, the giving of medals and certificates to
deserving, talented, and excellent students is awarded by the school President, Rev. Fr. Edgar
Bonette Clar. Later, the academic awardee, Honeymae Sacayan gives her speech of gratitude.
It was followed by the singing of the graduation song “Million Dreams”, and the farewell song.
The ceremony has ended with the picture taking by department.
After 4 years of studying at this institution, the graduates of the 34th college graduation
ceremony of the SVPDC have finally finished their studies and go on to serve the community
and hopefully bring a better future for the country. As they leave, we who are left behind can
only bid them farewell and all the worlds luck to guide them through the hardships that they
may face.
CTE CELEBRATES
new memories
By:Liza Millagracia

Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock! – As the hand of the clock rocks, the
sleepy head in a cold morning searches for the phone, looks at the
time, fixes everything, wears sneakers and ready to go. As early as 4:30
in the morning of October 3, 2018, Wednesday, the College of Teacher
Education students of Saint Vincent de Paul Diocesan College, the BEED,
BSED, and BTVTED together with some of the most active faculty and
staff headed by our very own CTE Program Head Madam Enya M. Gallo
have participated in the fun walk to officially start the education days’
celebration. The starting point of the fun walk is from the School Campus,
with the guidance of the Bislig City Traffic Management Group. The
participants roam around the highway of Barangay Mangagoy. Then, the
CTE students are gathered at the school’s outdoor basketball court to
have their coffee, bread and egg (pamainit). After the meal, the Zumba
Competition follows at 6 in the morning, participated by the 3 aspiring
teams, the Team “Dewey” under the advisory of Madam Enya Gallo,
Team “Thorndike” of Sir Walter Caminos, and Team “Gardner” by Ma’am
Daylinda Laraño. After the competition, the students are given a time to
prepare for the mass.
The CTE is the sponsor of the Holy Mass, wearing the royal
blue and grey coloured with white collar polo shirts. The holy mass has
been presided by our very own College President Rev. Fr. Edgar Bonette
B. Clar. After that, follows the formal opening of the program on the
celebration of the 5th Education Days! It is a three-day celebration
with the theme: “Intelligence plus characters equals true person”. The
laughter and the cheers of the crowd filled the campus gym as the
participants sway, dance, & feel the music in their performances in the
contemporary competition. In the afternoon, the events have challenged
the unity and teamwork of each team with at least twenty participants
from each team to participate in the team building. They shall accomplish
different tasks and challenges to be performed as a group which will
strengthen their bond and determination as part of the team. The day
ends with laughter and contentment as they performed their tasks well.
At exactly 6pm, the Popcorn Night event is highlighted with two movies
(The Meg and A Quiet Place) has been played in the big screen. The
tickets cost 10 pesos for the two movies with free popcorn. Tensions and
screams can be felt and heard from them.
Another day has flipped by. October 4, 2018 marks the second
day of the CTE celebration. Education students are gathered inside
the campus gym to welcome and listen to the guest speaker for the
symposium which was conducted by Mr. Ismael Endaya. He is not just a
good speaker but also a good person who has the skill to influence others
by his thoughts and ideas. He speaks and listens, he throws jokes with a
deep meaning. Yes, the symposium is like a comedy, but too meaningful
to those who understands. In the afternoon, the celebration continues
and each team shows how good they are in ball games from male and
female category. As their sweat drips down and hits the ground, it only
proves their determination to raise the banner of their teams. It has been
tiring yet so fun that it ends almost sunset.

In the evening of the 2nd day celebration, the students showcase their
talents and skills in the literary competition such as; Vocal solo, Duet,
Doble Kara and the search for Mr. & Ms. CTE 2018. The pressure can be
seen in the faces of the participants, but as they move, they give all their
best until the end; of course it is possible with the support from their
teams, friends and loved ones. Mr. Ulysses Dublaz is the newly crowned
Mr. CTE and Ms. Maide Onsayag as the newly crowned Ms. CTE. The
night ends perfectly amazing, and has been talked about before the
students head their way home.

October 5, 2018 the last day of the celebration, is the World Teachers’
Day and is the culminating night. The night is filled with the expression
of love of the students to their beloved living heroes who help them
develop and become equip for the future. Each of the year level prepare
something to present; and as the program goes by, each of the student
is given a chance to say Thank You, I love you, and to give gifts to their
heroes. The celebration is not only for the College of Teacher Education,
but also for all the teachers and students of the college department
of Saint Vincent de Paul Diocesan College. It is a huge success for the
students and teachers, which brings everlasting joy through memories.

Vincentians cherish
the Christmas season By: Jomar Serano & Jumari Liscano

The festive season is well and truly underway. Christmas is the

time to be merry, in keeping with the season, this article looks
at the positive outcome on having this kind of celebration every
year. On the 15th day of December 2019 the Christmas party
of the SVPDC College students has been held at the campus
gymnasium. It is the most aspiring moment to share love and
unity as one, as a simple quote once said “Sharing is Loving and
Give without regrets” in line with the theme “Vincentian is Love”.
School Christmas party during the holidays in the end of
the year is a key professional opportunity to mingle casually with
teachers, staff, classmates, schoolmates, and people whom you
didn’t encounter daily. It helps us socialize and express our deep
love to them. Giving or exchanging gifts are the most amazing
part of the season’s celebration.

Each of the year level from the different departments has prepared
something special that contributes to the Vincentian community.
The gifts from the heart in which the manito and manita burst
into laughter and nothing to say but Thank You and You made my
day. Also, a brave man with a good physique body but with a girly
heart showcases his talent just to give an entertainment and to
relay the message that everyone deserves to be happy and to be
treated equally. In the end of the party, even though everybody is
tired, but still the Vincentian faces are filled with smile and love,
which is evident; and the essence of loving and sharing symbolize
the unity as one family.

Taking with him his burden after the flight, “Ang Buhay”
Never giving rest even on day light. By: Christian C. Raut
Higit sa kaalaman ng lipunan,
Missing that world could be lighter, brighter, Walang taong walang pinagdaanan,
And things for him could then be easier, Musmos o matanda man,
Panay buhay parang hagdan,
But for him keeping low is what is right. Pataas, pababa na tila parang hinihila.

Buhay nga naman,

Gipit, pait, minsan sagana,
Knowing that good things is what he’ll miss, Darating sa puntong mawawalan ka ng gana,
Pero pilit na lumaban para sa kinabukasan,
If only he’d take time look around. Para sa pamilya at kaibigan, maging sa lipunan.
Ang buhay puno ng pagsubok,
And realize world is not flat but round. May mga panahong tayo’y nalulugmok,
Pero pilit tayong lumaban,
But keeping pace of life is what he says Para sa pang araw- araw nating pangangailangan.

Because that is what he had always heard. Kababayan, bangon! Bangon!

Hinaharap ay puno ng samu’t saring hamon,
Oh! How I sympathize with you, lone bird!

Hero in Disguise In the eyes of so, students, a teacher is a dragon, which flares
By: Christian S. Raut out its most dreadful attack at any moment; However, in our
classroom, our teacher is the most valiant dragon who saves every
child from the wall of ignorance. Perhaps, you will think that I
write this just to let him / her feel flattered, but with sincerity I
mean every word written here. In fact, I’m grateful and thankful
to God for having them as one of my friends as mentor as well.

Our teacher/instructor is often called Madam / Ma’am / Sir by

their students. They are indeed beautiful inside and outside,
loving, and kind-hearted individual. Moreover, a jolly person that
makes the class discussion an enjoyable one. They see to it that we
learn something new every day. Despite of their health, they never
lose an inch of spirit just to continue their call of duty.

Teacher are the source of various learning and uneasy experiences.

We learn from their teachings, commitment, and the ability to
make us realize our personal growth. In short, teaching profession
is of the multi-tasking jobs. If we try to put ourselves into their
shoes, then we’ll have better chances of understanding our heroes
in disguise.
Unfolded Love
Forlorn as the cloud begin to rain
By: Liza C. Millagracia

Love is in the air as what others say

Everyday I woke up feeling the pain They’re right because we felt it each single day
How I wish I could even end what’s within I love him and he loves me
But it’s okay, I need to live His laugh and smiles complete me
Even though I’m still in the process of healing.
This love that I never expected is the thing I must need
to be cherished
Moving on was that easy Because he deserves the love
To forget the person whom hurted me He deserves the chance
Someone like a savior rescued me He deserves to be happy
From the pain I almost get used to be. And this love needs to be true
I felt the true happiness within you.

Love grows and felt

It has been found and searched I treasured moment we shared
Having each other we’re so lucky The experiences together we shared
Felt motivated and inspired daily His love that will always remain
We will still choose to stay in love forever this way

Everyday we both go to school with smile on our faces Our love is unfolded
His smile is my favorite part of him in daily meetings It cannot be break apart
The love of his into mine I appreciate it Even if someone will try to destroy it
His love for me is the thing I never expected No one can tear us apart
Our love will surely be unfolded
With unending love
I know we can achieve it.
I, as a student have been thinking of how our teachers achieve their goals, succeed in life,
and become creators of the next future leaders and professionals. I ask three of our treasured
teachers these three questions, the first one is “how did you achieve your success?”, next
is “what are your struggles before achieving success?” and lastly, “do you have any tips /
footnotes for the students on how they are going to achieve their goals and dreams in life?”

Dr. Roberta L. Omas-as;

-There are too many factors in achieving success. I have undergone
too many sacrifices and I kept my inner drive from burning. Prayer is also
one of the factors of my success. Perseverance and patience also took part
of what I am today.
-I don’t consider struggles as negative factor on achieving success;
these are part of growing. I had overcome poverty. I had been a working
scholar because of the financial problems yet, it is not a reason for me to
stop. It had been a challenge for me when I was taking my master’s degree.
Long boat travels, and it made me separate from my parents but I still
pursue and strive to finish my studies.
-First of all, willingness to sacrifice, to pursue, to grow
professionally. Self-motivation and inner drive also play a big part in
doing tasks. The ultimate weapon for achieving goals is prayer and having
a strong relationship with God. Lastly, Simplicity is beauty.
Maam Loida S. Gorospe
-You should be committed on your goals in life for you to achieve
it accurately. Having patience can help you achieve success, do not burst
into it or search an immediate result, because it takes time for everything.
Also, being very industrious and the willingness to sacrifice was my way of
reaching my success.
-There are so many types of struggles that I have encountered
especially financial problems, but I still go-on in spite of all the hardships in
life. I always pray and I made a strong relationship with God, because if you
do not have faith you cannot succeed.
-First of all, do not mind all the negative things in life. Have focus on
what you want to achieve. It also needs a focus on your studies, make a move
if you want to achieve something. Perseverance is one of the key factors on
obtaining your goals in life.

Dr. Roberta L. Omas-as;

-I was born from a very religious family, my parents are both teachers.
My parents trained us to be more focus on our studies. Education is a real deal
when it comes on living. Education is the heart and life for every human being.
I love it because I have developed a study habit, and my eagerness to learn more
keeps on growing each day.
-The struggle that I have encountered was poverty which most of us face
today. We are 5 in the family and the salary of my parents is just enough to
sustain our needs. I finished my 2 - year midwifery course at the age of 18 and
nursing at the age of 35, at that age I am already married and had 3 children.
Good thing that my aunt was a Principal; she helped me pursue the course away
from home.
-The flame in your heart for studies must be kept on burning. Always
pray and have faith in God. Develop a study habit, do not let your notebook or
books rest inside your bag, you need to read them every night so that the lessons
of the selections retain inside your memory.
