for the Schools Division of Calbayog City

By

This study aimed to assess the innovations and best practices of

administrators and teachers of public and private schools in the Schools Division of

Calbayog City for the school year 2017-2018 with the end view of proposing a

quality manual of innovations and best practices for the Schools Division of

Calbayog City.

The realm of the study was relatively mixed-method research comprising of

questionnaire and interviews.

The schools profile and respondents profile were determined. Moreover, the

innovations were sought in terms of: leadership and decision-making, professional

development, parents and learning, curriculum and instruction, and assessment and

showed that the

UNIVERSITY
public and private schools were homogenous in their understanding of innovations

as practiced in their respective schools. The practiced of innovations in the public

and private schools was not affected by the school profile or vice versa but the

school level had the influence on the innovations of the public school. More so the

public elementary level had a different perceptions on the innovations as compared

to the public secondary level. Also, there was a significant difference in the

innovations between the public and private schools. There were no significant

differences in the innovations in terms of leadership and decision-making,

professional development, parents and learning, curriculum and instruction, and

assessment and management in the public and private schools when grouped

according to school profile with the exception of school level in the public schools

where it found to be highly significant. There was no significant difference between

the identified best practices in public and private schools in terms of: school

leadership practices implemented to improve teacher practices, best classroom

instruction practices implemented to improve students’ performance, and learning

community practices implemented to improve leadership practices. There was a

significant difference in the best practices of the public schools; while there was no

significant difference in the best practices of the private schools when grouped

according to school level.

The results of the qualitative part of study showed that almost all participants

in the study self-assess themselves as possessing moderately practicing innovations

and had homogenous perceptions on best practices as being demonstrated in their

respective

schools.

UNIVERSITY
