YES-O LEADERSHIP CAMP 2019
NARRATIVE REPORT

The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES –O) was established to increase
global concerns for environmental action against threats to Mother Earth and to consolidate all in
safeguarding, protecting, and conserving the environment. To achieve this goal, the Division of
Bayugan City have also taken part in implementing the activities of YES – O.
Bayugan City Division conducted the 2019 Division Youth for Environment in Schools
Organization (YES – O) Leadership Camp on December 3-4, 2019 at Bayugan National
Comprehensive High School, Bayugan City. This is in pursuant to the DepEd Order No. 52, s.
2011 which is the Strengthening Environmental Education in Public and Private Schools and
DepEd Order No. 93 s. 2011 which is the Mandated Programs, Projects and Activities, Various
Forms, and Targets Pertinent to the Youth For Environment in Schools (YES) Program. This two-
day Leadership Camp embodied the theme: “Sustaining Green Actions for a Safer Climate.”

The YES – O Leadership Camp seek to achieve the objectives as follows; Develop learners
who are aware and conscious on their roles and responsibilities in saving the environment and who
will lead in the implementation of YES O Programs, Projects and Activities in the preservation
and conservation of the nature through educational advocacies and awareness campaigns; to create
awareness on the state of the Philippine environment and ecology; focusing on significant issues
and concerns; to learn how to sustain the environment through our initiative to do actions; to instill
environment values in every young leaders to motivate actual involvement in worthwhile and
doable projects and activities for the environment and lastly to train young leaders on aspects of
leadership, management, teamwork and volunteerism.

DAY 1
On December 3, 2019, the Day 1 of the camp was started with the registration of participants and
is followed by the opening program. The opening remarks was given by Mrs. Rosemarie Ocon,
the Assistant Principal of Bayugan National Comprehensive High School where the camp was
held. This was followed by the acknowledgement of Participants from different schools in the
division. Each school has 3 participants which includes the YES-O President, SPG/SSG President
and YES-O Coordinator of the school. In addition, the statement of purpose was given by Dr.
Wilson C. Calvo, Chief of School Governance and Operations Division.
Moreover, there has been many important personas who are invited to share their expertise and
impart their knowledge to the young leaders’ mind and heart. Hon. Kirk A. Asis, Bayugan City
Mayor, who was the keynote speaker of the said camp was duly represented by Engr. Primitivo
Alimpoos, City Councilor of Bayugan, made his part in motivating young leaders by deliberating
the Role of Youth in Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation; a further discussion was also
made by Mr. Ariel B. Carmelotes, YES-O Coordinator from Berseba National High School.
Furthermore, an invitation was also sent to Hon. Santiago Cane Jr., Provincial Governor, but due
to busy schedule, he wasn’t able to make it to the program. However, despite of the busy schedule,
he is one of the major sponsors of the held Leadership Camp.
On the afternoon during the Day 1, three Plenary Sessions are discussed. This includes Global
Warming/Climate Change with Ms. Cheryl Elpa from EMB XIII/DENR-RO. However, she was
not able to make it to the program due to hectic appointments, Mr. Ronil D. Alferez, YES-O
Federation President delivered the first plenary. The second plenary on Philippine Local
Biodiversity Status was supposed to be discussed by Ms. Maria C. Gunay of EMS/DENR-CENRO
but she was also busy. Thus, For. Emiliano P. Gatillo Jr., Chief of Conservation Development Unit
discussed the 2nd plenary. The 3rd plenary was the sharing of Best School Practices by Grace N.
Alburo, Eco-Saver Club Adviser of ADSNHS, Ronil D. Alferez, YES-O Coordinator of BNCHS
and Josephine Mahilum from ADSPILS. This was followed by a Workshop for YES-O Best
Practices. A message was also given by one of the sponsors of the camp in the name of Mrs.
Crucita M. Taala, Catholic Women’s League Diocesan President, together with her company. On
the other hand, the Day 1 of the Leadership Camp was made successful and was concluded with
Solidarity Fellowship-Web of Life who was facilitated by Mr. Ariel Carmelotes. The aim of the
Solidarity Fellowship is to make young leaders realize that every little entity in this world has its
own purpose and function and thus each one of us affects the other, for we are all connected.

DAY 2
On December 4, 2019, different activities were scheduled. The day was started with a Rain Zumba
Dance where participants were made to appreciate the importance of water conservation. This is
followed by the Environment Consciousness Walk. The said Environment Consciousness Walk is
conducted to give awareness and encourage everyone to be more sensitive to the environment.
Participants on the said parade carried banners and slogan with environmental sayings and
quotations; and while walking they also picked up some plastics and trash along the way.
Additionally, a Gallery Walk was held after the parade. This activity displays the best practices
from different schools of Bayugan City Division. The intention of the said Gallery Walk Display
is not merely to display the best practices in their respective schools but also to share and showcase
their conducted activities where others can benchmark.
Moreover, team building activities are also held on the last day of the camp where participants
enjoyed and developed their camaraderie. This is followed by the Election of Bayugan City
Division Student YES-O Federation both from Elementary and Secondary. The newly elected
officers were inducted by the Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Minerva T. Albis who also
gave her message of encouragement and challenged everyone to be more sensitive to the call of
nature. The awarding ceremony followed after the message of Dr. Albis.

Indeed, the 2-day YES-O Leadership Camp was successfully delivered and conducted
through the help of all the YES-O School Coordinators, officers and other stakeholders. The set
objectives were met at the end of the camp and it is made sure that as participants went out through
the venue, they already possess all the necessary leadership skills they need to become catalysts of
change and to become our environmental agents.
