Operating Agency : Department of Education – Cotabato Division

II. Rationale

Ricardo L. Ipong National High School conceived the plan on Gulayan Ng Paaralan last
June 2016 in compliance of the Division Memorandum No. 295,s.2016 and the DepEd order
No.5,s. 2014 with the aim to implement efficient and effective National Greening Program
through the integration of gulayan sa paaralan, ecological SWM and tree growing and caring
activities.

With the aim to better sustain and maintain the school’s Gulayan sa Paaralan, one of the
priorities is nursery establishment. The setup of nursery site as an additional feature to the
school’s Gulayan sa paaralan will help supply vegetable seedlings as well as plants for the
flower garden.

Objectives:

 To set-up a nursery site as an additional feature for the Gulayan sa Paaralan

 To produce healthy vegetable seedlings for the Gulayan sa paaralan and the
school’s garden
 To sustain the abundance and productivity of the Gulayan sa Paaralan especially
for the Feeding program.

II. Scope and Coverage

A. Priority Target Beneficiaries and Schools

The students of Ricardo L. Ipong National High School will be train through
indirect beneficiaries of the construction of the nursery site as an additional feature to the
Gulayan sa paaralan. If a nursery site will put in place, reserved vegetable seedlings will
be produced and will help sustain the abundance of harvest of vegetables in the field and
will therefore sustain the Feeding program of the school.

B. Duration:
To achieve the objectives for this project, a period of four months from February
to May was allotted (each of the week was broken down into achievable
subtasks). After sowing of seeds, nursery maintenance will then follow which will
be carried out by the assigned PTA officers since there’s no students in the school
because of pandemic we are facing right now.

III.Activity

February 3rd week 2021 Determining the Best area for Nursery to Set-Up
The site was identified by the Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator together with the
principal which is suitable for the nursery establishment.

February 4th week- April 2021 Area clearing and Construction of Nursery Shed
The clearing of area as well as construction of the nursery shed was done by the PTA
officers of Ricardo L. Ipong National High School with the help of hired carpenters and Sir Elfie
Bayot. Some parents were voluntarily helped as well.
May 1st week 2021 Choosing Viable Seeds/ Planting Materials
During 1 week of May, as part of their performance task, the Grade II- Steiner students
st

under their ACP subject were assigned to submit vegetable seeds and choose those which are
viable for planting including other planting materials and will be collected by the assigned
teacher in their learning station.
May 2nd week 2021 Preparation of Growing media
On the 2 week of May, preparation of soil and bagging of growing media was allotted so
nd

that seeds of vegetables and other planting materials can be planted onwards.
May 3rd week 2021 up to present: Nursery Maintenance
Since the nursery has been setup successfully, the 3 rd week of May up to present and until the
end of the school year, are allotted for the maintenance of the site.

III. PROBLEMS MET

a. Logistics and preparation

The fund and materials necessary for the set-up of the nursery site were very minimal.
b. Timetable delay
Weather is one of the main factors for the delay of the setting up of this
project. When there is heavy rain, the work stopped.
IV. RECOMMENDATION

 Area should have a good drainage because stagnant water can deter the growth or worst
wither the young plants in the nursery, hence good drainage is required for the
establishment of nursery.
 Area should have access to water source all the time to avoid wilting of the seedlings.
