Speed Each “burst” of the Alcon EX 500 Laser lasts mere billionths of a second before the laser
shifts to its next position-up to 100 times faster than some lasers.
Precision The Alcon EX 500 Laser uses a small-spot laser beam, which allows LASIK specialists to
shape the cornea in finer, more gradual increments for a smoother surface with eye-tracking technology
8 times faster than some of the competition.
Simplicity The Alcon EX 500 Laser’s integrated cross-line projector provides the surgeon with an
exact alignment of the head’s and eye’s position by generating a red-light cross on the eye for accuracy.
Eye Care Hospital selected the Alcon WaveLight Ex500 to ensure our patients have the most advanced
technology available to provide the highest quality outcomes. It represents the state-of-the art in Laser
Eye Surgery.
LASIK is the world’s most widely performed procedure to offer spectacle-free vision. This vision
correction surgery is keeping pace with our increasingly faster lifestyle. But only a combination of years
of experience and cutting edge technological precision can ensure the safety of our valuable eye.
In the myopic eye the image does not reach the back part
of the eye (the retina). In the myopic eye the cornea and
lens are too curved and focus the image to a point in front
of the retina, the image is then seen as a blur. Only by
moving up close to the image will it be shifted on to the
retina and seen clearly. Myopic people can see up close,
but need glasses or contact lenses to see far away.
LASIK involves slightly flattening the cornea which is the curved rounded front surface of the eye; the
image is then clearly focused on the retina.
In the hyperopic eye the cornea and lens are too flat
and focus the image to a point behind the retina; the
image is then seen as a blur. The muscles controlling the
lens can overcome some degree of hyperopia but
weaken with age. This is why many hyperopes begin to
require distance and near glasses after the age of 30.
After laser correction with LASIK the cornea is slightly more curved; the image is then clearly focused on
the retina. The result is that the hyperopic patient can see clearly for distance after laser treatment.
From improved self-confidence to a whole range of new activities, Laser Eye Surgery has a long list of benefits.
IMMEDIATE RESULTS
One of the truly remarkable benefits of LASIK eye surgery is that most LASIK patients experience dramatically
improved vision within mere moments of the procedure. It is very common for patients to demonstrate near-
perfect vision during their follow-up examinations the very day after LASIK surgery, and to immediately
discontinue the use of glasses or contact lenses.
After successfully undergoing LASIK eye surgery, one of the benefits patients are most excited about is freedom
from corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses. In the vast majority of cases, patients enjoy visual acuity that is
better than what they formerly experienced with the use of corrective lenses, and are no longer dependent on
glasses and contacts. For many LASIK patients, gone are the days of worrying over broken glasses or lost contacts,
packing cumbersome cleaning and storing solutions, or paying for costly replacements each time refractive needs
change.
NEW ACTIVITIES
Patients who have undergone successful LASIK eye surgery find that travel becomes much more enjoyable and
convenient because they no longer have to worry about packing a back-up pair of glasses or all the accessories
necessary for contact wearers. Furthermore, such activities as swimming, cycling, skydiving, and even spending a
day at the beach become more pleasurable without the worries and hassles associated with corrective eyewear.
MORE SELF-CONFIDENCE
Perhaps the most life changing of the many LASIK benefits is the heightened self-confidence many patients attain.
After LASIK surgery, patients no longer feel as though their faces are hidden by glasses. From the convenience of
not having to worry about glasses or contact lenses, to increased self-confidence and a wider range of possible
activities, patients who undergo LASIK eye surgery often feel like a whole new world has been opened to them. If
you are interested in undergoing LASIK for superior visual results, please contact us at Northern Beaches Eye
Surgery.
Are you a Candidate for LASIK?
You should be at least 18 years old, since the refraction of people younger than 18
usually continues to change.
You should not be pregnant or nursing as these conditions might change the measured
refraction of the eye.
You eyes must be healthy and your glass prescription stable. If you are myopic you
should postpone LASIK until your refraction has stabilized as myopia may continue to
increase in some patients until their mid to late 20’s.
You should be in good general health.
Lasik FAQs:
How long does the surgery take place?
As in most of the patient both eyes are treated in same sitting, your procedure may last for 10 to
15 min
Is it painful?
No. surgery is carried out after putting anesthetic drops. Some patient might fell pressure
sensation for few minutes.
Is treatment permanent?
Yes, however you will need reading glasses once you reach presbyopic age
Is LASIK safe?
Lasik is one of the safest surgeries in human body, however as with any medical procedures
there are certain risk involves which a candidate may understand and accept before surgery.
Please make sure you have discussed your case in detail with your surgeon and understood
all aspects of the procedure
