EXHIBIT II

SPECIFICATION FOR SAND FILTRATION SYSTEM

1.0 GENERAL

The layout of the Works shall be such as to accommodate 4 filter units, as shown in the
Drawings.

The filtration plant shall be of rapid gravity sand filters designed for air scour and
backwash.

Each filter unit shall be identical in dimensions, each containing one filter bed. The
surface area of each filter bed is about 20m 2. Each filter bed shall have an inlet and
backwash channel with inlet penstock and backwash penstock. Each filter bed shall have
its own outlet valves, backwash inlet valve and air scouring system from blower.
The filter shall be designed such that a positive pressure is maintained within the filter
media under all operating conditions.

2.0 FILTER RATING

Each filter shall have a estimated throughput of 25 litre/sec with the filtration rate not
exceeding 5.0 m3/hour/m2.

The filtered water outlet valves and pipework shall be as shown in the Drawings. Water
shall enter the filter units over identical channels so that all filters receive the same
quantity of water. The outlets from the filters shall be controlled by electrically operated
penstock with handwheel.

The Contractor shall supply and install all piping, laterals, nozzles, valves, penstocks for
untreated water and backwash water outlet, tubing, electrical control equipment and the
like, necessary for the proper operation and control of the filtration plant.

3.0 FILTER MEDIA

Filtration shall be gravity flowed through layers of filter media from sand to gravel media
as shown in Drawings. The depth of the filter media shall be to ensure adequate
distribution of backwash after it leaves the nozzles in the underdrain system with
minimum risk of intermixing. The nozzles shall be designed to provide separate air and
backwash distribution control system.

The filter media shall be clean, hard and durable, free from clay, organic matter, shells
and other materials. The source of each type of filter media shall be stated by the
Tenderer at the time of tendering. Following acceptance of the Tender, the Contractor
shall supply samples of each medium to the CR for testing and approval and orders shall
be placed only upon approval by CR

Test certificates shall be produced from the origin of supply to the approval of the CR and
in no case shall delivery to Site be affected when the gradings differ materially from the
approved sample. The Contractor shall make good, at no cost to Petronas Management
Training Sdn Bhd, any loss in sand during the Period of Running Maintenance.

4.0 FILTER FLOOR AND UNDERDRAINS

A lateral type underdrain system shall be constructed. All lateral piping within each Filter
shall discharge into a central channel which shall transport filtered water out of the
filtration tank proper.
All parts of the filter flow and underdrain system shall be fully protected against corrosion.
The design shall ensure even distribution of air and backwash water over the complete

filter bed area and prevent the flow of water or air from anywhere beneath the filter floor
except through the nozzles.

The Contractor shall provide all fixtures and fittings including holding down bolts and
sealing materials for the filter floor. If pre-cast concrete slabs or units form part of the filter
floor, the Contractor shall cast under the supervision of the CR

5.0 FILTER BACKWASH SYSTEM

The filter media shall be washed by air scour and backwash with filtered water. Filter
washing shall be carried out by air scour followed by backwash. The Contractor shall
guarantee that the system is effective against the formation of mud balls.

The backwash water will spill into the backwash channel, adjacent to the filter before
flowing into the backwash tunnel and then into the backwash pipe heading to the
Backwash/Sludge Tank.

6.0 FILTER CONTROL

The valves and penstocks for controlling the filters shall be electrically operated and the
controls for each pair of filters shall be form a console located in the filter control gallery.

Each console shall control:

a) 500 x 500 opening with Bottom Flush electrically operated Penstock with Handwheel
for inlet water to each filter
b) The 600 x 600 opening with Bottom Flush electrically operated Penstock with
Handwheel for outlet backwash water from each filter.
c) A pressure gauge for the air scour pressure at each backwash water inlet to the filter
d) An ultrasonic meter for level sensor in each filter tank
e) Sluice valves at outlet of each filter tank to control filtered water to Filtered Water
tank.
