Three Diamonds

Good Afternoon Fellow Toastmasters and Speech Crafteters.

When I was a small child, I was very selfish, always grab the best for myself. Slowly, everyone
left me and I had no friends. I didn’t think it was my fault but I criticize others.

But my father gave me 3 lessons to help me in life.

One day, my father cooked Chicken Biriyani and brought in two plates on the table. One plate
has one chicken piece on top and the other plate does not have any chicken piece on top.

He said ”My child. You choose. Which plate do u want”. Chicken pieces were hard to come by
those days! Only get to eat chicken pieces during festivals.

So, I chose the plate with chicken piece. As we started eating. I was congratulating myself on
my wise choice.

Then to my surprise as my father ate his Chicken Biriyani, there were TWO chicken pieces at
the bottom of his plate beneath the rice!

I regretted so much! And scolded myself for being too hasty in my decision.

My father smiled and said, ”My child. You must remember what your eyes see may not be true.

If you intent on taking advantage of people, you will end up losing!”

The next day, my father again prepared Chicken Biriyani: brought one plate with a chicken piece
on top and the other plate with no chicken piece on top.

Then said, “My child, You choose, which plate do you want?”

This time I am smarter. I chose the plate without any chicken piece on top.

To my surprise, as I separated the rice on top, there was not even a single chicken piece at the
bottom of the plate!

Again my father smiled and said, ”My child, you must not always rely on experiences because
sometimes, life can play tricks on you.

But you must not be too annoyed or sad, just treat this as learning a lesson. You cannot learn
this from textbooks.”

The third day, my father again prepared Chicken Biriyani, and brought one plate with an chicken
piece on top and the other plate with no chicken piece on top.

He said, ”My child, choose, which plate do you want?”.

This time, I told my father, ”Dad, you choose first. You are the bread winner.”

My father did not decline and chose the plate with one chicken piece on top. As I eat my plate of
Biriyani, sure in my heart that there is no chicken piece inside my plate.
To my surprise! There were TWO chicken pieces at the bottom of the plate.

My father smiled at me and said, ”My child, you must remember, when you think for the good of
others, good things will always naturally happen to you!”

Of course this is not my personal story. This is the story of Xi Jinping, President of China.

May be it’s a cooked story. Still, there are 3 diamonds in this story.

1) If you intent on taking advantage of people, you will end up losing

2) You must not always rely on experiences because sometimes, life can play tricks on
you. So consider it as an Learning experience
3) When you think for the good of others, good things will always naturally happen to you
