 Upload your own newly created French Impressionist or Post-Impressionist
inspired photo to the discussion board with an explanation sharing your
source
painting and additional comments about your experience with the new

5. This is a multiple choice question. Type the correct answer next to the

The importance of personal and cultural identity and its changing historical
nature
is one of the common themes in this era of Western art. Be sure to read
the overview
Lecture in the Part Six Module on Postmodernism for this question.
A. Post Modern Art
B. Modernism
C. Pop Art
D. Italian Baroque

6. This is a dropbox question for all. Put your answer into the dropbox
file for this part of the course.

o Choose an Early Modernist abstract artwork from your textbook or the

internet. The example must have been made prior to 1960.
Early Modernism does not mean art from the present day. It is explained in
your textbook
in the 10th & 11th ed. on pages 483-499. Read your textbook carefully. The
years between 1940 and 1980 are transitional years that include Abstract
Expressionism and Pop Art, among other styles. (These are neither Early
Modern nor Postmodern styles). Before you choose a piece for this
question, consider carefully:
What is the definition of ABSTRACT? Is my example made between 1900
and 1960? Artists to consider: Matisse, Derain, Kirchner, Kandinsky,
Malevich, Hartley, Picasso, O'Keeffe, Delaunay, Braque, Picabia,
Mondrian, Leger.
o Include a working url or textbook figure number or a link to an image,
carefully
documenting the title, artist and date.
o How do you personally react to the piece you chose?
o What do you think Modernist abstract artists were concerned with
expressing?
o Critique your chosen work from one of the points of view discussed in your
textbook on page 126 in the 10th ed., p. 125 in the 11th ed., (formalism,
iconography, psychoanalysis, social context or feminism).
Using what you think is one appropriate point of view, explain what you
think is being expressed.
o This answer should be approximately 2 paragraphs. In your textbook, points
of view are carefully explained, and include formalism, iconography,
psychoanalysis, social context and feminism.
