AC LINE DETECTOR

AC LINE DETECTOR
ABSTRACT:-
Electricity can cause serious injury or even death
which is why safety must come first when working
with electricity or electrical devices. In order to
avoid injury, prior to starting work on an electrical
box such as an AC mains switch-board or a power
supply, for example, you must first verify there is
no AC voltage. If you can't completely isolate your
device from the supply wires, how can you be sure
that there's no voltage remaining? Enter a non-
contact AC line detector.

What is AC Line Detector?

AC Line Detector is a circuit which functions as,
When a magnetic field is produced around a
current carrying conductor and if current
through the conductor is alternating current
(AC), the magnetic field produced varies
periodically. A non-contact AC voltage detector
detects the changing magnetic field around AC
energized objects.

This non-contact AC voltage detector uses NPN

type transistors in order to detect voltage. A
transistor has three terminals - collector,
emitter and base. Collector to emitter current is
controlled by the base current. When there is no
base current, no collector to emitter current
flows. Thus, a transistor acts as a switch. It can
be 'ON', it can be OFF or in-between.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE:-
An output of AC Line Detector is taken as LED
for detection of conducting line LED is connected
to the output of two transistor that is collector
terminal.1st transistor base terminal is taken
as input which is connected by copper wire
and 1st transistor emitter terminal is
connected to second transistor base. The
whole circuit is powered by 9 Volts battery,
positive terminal is connected to collector
transistor and positive terminal of LED and
negative termina is connected to 2nd
transistor emitter terminal.
When connections are done, if we move our coil
towards an conducting wire, then LED will glow
and indicates that current is flowing through
line, if led is not glowing when move towards
line, it has no current flowing through it.
