UNIT: ATOMIC STRUCTURE, PERIODIC TABLE AND PERIODIC TRENDS – YEAR 9

Understanding the relationship between form and function of elements enables us to predict their
behaviour.
AKA strand: Economics for Development
Students will find out how resources are employed to produce goods that satisfy people’s wants and needs
and the impact of production and consumption on the environment.

Investigating elements of the periodic table and their use in addressing a specific problem/issue

Year 4 (Grade 9) - Criterion D: Reflecting on the impacts of science Maximum: 8

Students will choose one element from the periodic table,

Identify a problem that has been addressed using this element
Demonstrate an understanding of its behaviour, based on its structure and properties and link this to its real
life application to address the issue,
Discuss, and analyse the implications of using this substance.

Students can present their work in the form of an essay, a PowerPoint, on Manila, as a song .
