*How does it work?

Walking 1km = 71 Paytreal points

Booking bus tickets = 800 Paytreal points

Payment of utility bills and movie tickets = 20 Paytreal points

Purchase of environment friendly and recyclable products =

300-1000 Paytreal points

Main frame:
10 Paytreal points = 1 INR

Assumption: 1 Paytreal point = 1g of CO2 emission reduced.

Process entailed to combat the problem:

Ans:
We aim to develop a payment gateway app, "Paytreal" to maintain
personal carbon accounts for individual users to track their carbon
footprints and to reward them on the basis of environment friendly
activities undertaken by them. The app would facilitate recording
the steps taken by individuals, payments for bus tickets, online
payment of utility bills, shopping portal for recycled products, etc.
These activities contribute to low carbon emissions or reduction in
carbon emissions such as walking instead of taking a personal
vehicle or buying a movie ticket online instead of purchasing a
paper ticket, etc. These activities would add to the user's personal
carbon account and will be recorded as Paytreal points. Example:
If a lperson covers 1km in 1500 steps, so if he takes 10,000 steps,
he covers 6.66km on average and thus, this can be calculated as
475g of CO2 emission saved on taking 10,000 steps.
Every 10g of CO2 emission reduced would reward the user with 1
Paytreal point, and each point would have INR 1 as the reward or
redemption value, alongwith other cashback offers on the Paytreal
wallet, which can again be used for further transactions on the app
itself.
Thus, we aim to introduce an economic incentive for members to
reduce their CO2 emissions. More transactions on the app would
lead to more traffic as well as higher downloads, and thus would
generate boosted revenues for us, and would also lead to higher
rewards to the users for their increased activities on the app.
Paytreal aims to recognise and grant tangible values to the public
for their low carbon behaviour through scientific measurement in a
large scale.

What problem are you trying to solve?

Carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas that drives global climate

change, continues to rise every month.

Environmental effect of carbon dioxide on air pollution is climate

change. The earth's surface temperature has risen over the last 100
years, according to studies done by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Scientists believe carbon
dioxide pollution is the primary culprit. The effects are highly
complex. Evidence shows, however, that ocean water levels have
increased, resulting in a loss of shoreline and coastal wetlands.
Carbon dioxide emissions impact human health by displacing oxygen
in the atmosphere. Breathing becomes more difficult as carbon
dioxide levels rise. The major reason for CO2 emission are the
release of fossil fuels. These fuels, at micro level are released by
vehicles and we as individuals are emitting them the most. Micro
variables aggregate to constitute the macro level. If we, as
individuals are incentivised for not emitting CO2, then this problem
can be tackled. With our app, Paytreal, we will incentivise
individuals for undertaking activities that will reduce the emission
of CO2. This will reduce the global warming and motivate
individuals to become more environmentally conscious.

Target Audience
Our target audience will comprise of all the individuals, mainly
comprising adults and students. We will be serving those
individuals also who are not using any payment gateway apps
existing in the market like Paytm or GPay, daily commuters through
public or private vehicles.

The cost and revenue model

*Costs incurred:*
Fixed:
App development costs(Initial)-25, 00,000
Patent fees-50, 000

Recurring:
App maintenance costs-10, 000(monthly)
Payout to users on redemption(depending on the number of users)
Advertising-10,00,000

*Revenue streams:*
1. App downloads
2. App clicks and traffic on app
3. Payment transactions
4. Commission from third parties
5. Advertising
6. Interest earned on E-wallet amount

The major source of revenue is the amount of commission received

from every company registered on the app for which bookings are
facilitated.

Assumption:
1Paytreal Point=1INR.
No. of users=1000 daily
Avg. no. of transactions per month(by each user) =10
Maximum cashback offered per transaction=50%

Variable costs incurred every year:18,00,000(including payouts to

customers)
Revenue:18,00,000(including commission advertising)

How does your business idea build a 'Positive Impact' on our planet
'With Every Dollar Generated'?
-->  There is a mechanism of 'Carbon Trading' as per the Kyoto
Protocol which allows nations who are unable to meet their
reduction targets to purchase carbon credits under a unified
regulatory framework. The carbon credits can be purchased from
other member nations who own a Green House Gas quota that they
no longer require or alternatively new credits can be created
through the financing of projects that reduce GHG emissions.
Similarly, with our application 'PayTreal' we tend to provide each
and every individual such 'PayTreal Points' on every transaction
they make. They may trade the residual of the total quota for a
price from the other individual.
Various positive impacts which will be generated through this
model are:-
• Awareness among the people regarding the climate change as
there is a direct benefit of the people with the use of this app.
• Combating the ongoing climate change making the human
settlements safe and inclusive.
• Reduced emissions of Greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
• A move towards enhanced digitization of the society leading
towards a paper-less economy.

Timeline:

Aiming for launching the app and subsequent development of

personal carbon accounts in the first year, the aim of Paytreal
would be to get a registered patent of the mechanism of carbon
tracking and further development of the platform to link other
utlity payment apps and booking apps with Paytreal. Linking several
other payment gateways on one app to record individual carbon
footprints would facilitate boosted revenues for Paytreal and at
the same time eliminate competition, and promote collaboration.
This step would also lead to internationally accepted personal
carbon accounts and help in capturing the majority share of the
market. A major goal of the app over the 5 years would be
integration of personal carbon accounts with the macro level
Kyoto Protocol, and thus facilitate trading of carbon quotas or
footprints between individuals and industries, so as to reward
individuals for their personal efforts on reducing CO2 emissions as
well as charging the industries for emitting  excess levels of CO2.
