Description of Project

The proposed parking lot will cater mainly for SEGI University College, Kota Damansara
students and staffs due to the rising number of personal vehicle users over the years and it is
expected to rise even more in the next coming years. An aerial view map showing the
location of SEGI University College is shown as below.

The proposed project site is located opposite of SEGI University College where the green
shades reside on the map above. It is ideal for a parking lot construction since it lies just
beside Jalan Teknologi which is currently being used as the main road to the college. Another
plus point is that the proposed site is also located about 60 metres from Cova Square which
makes it strategically convenient for patrons to park their vehicles and walk to the
commercial lots. Considering that it only takes approximately 2 minutes’ walk from the
parking lot to college main lobby via an integrated bridge, students and staffs would have no
complication of running late to classes or being exposed to hot sun and heavy rain. The red
ellipse in the vicinity map below shows the location of the proposed parking lot.
Currently, there is no one residing in the area of proposed project thus there is no need to
request for houses relocation from the authority. The land is filled with common low rise
trees which can be legally cleared and new plants may be regrowth around the parking
structure to increase aesthetic values. This area is safe for a parking structure as it does not lie
within a high speed roadway therefore it is easy and safe for patrons to slow their vehicles
and enter the parking lot entrance. Other land areas have been surveyed and considered,
although they were either too far or privately owned.

As for structural requirement, the parking lot consists of a 4 storey structure with an
allocation of 80 4-wheel vehicle bays per storey. There will be surplus spaces available to be
utilised by motorcycle users as well. The top storey is well covered thus avoiding patrons of
being exposed to bad weather. The design of the parking structure and the integrated
bridgework will be aesthetically pleasing yet has a high sustainability to cut cost on regular
maintenance. The height of the parking structure will be taken into consideration strictly to
avoid obstructing views or being inconsistent with surrounding structures. The project
consultant will propose for best location of entrances and exits, angle of parking stalls, one
way and two way accesses.

The integrated bridge will be protruding from the 2nd floor of the parking structure extending
straight to the open area nearby college’s water fountain and the main lobby entrance. The
bridge top is covered for patrons’ convenience and they may reach the college through a set
of descending stairs at the college end of the bridge. The whole pathway is covered ensuring
total protection from weathering. The whole design of the proposed project will be executed
based on the college’s current aesthetic values to allow blending in of the new structures to
the current one.

Each bay in the parking structure is numbered so that reservation can be made for patrons
looking to book for monthly or yearly based parking spaces. Each floor is colour coded so
patrons would not have hard times remembering their parking location. There will also be a
parking floor reminder note located near the elevators; patrons may pick one to keep as
reference should they forgotten their parking floor later.

2 indoor elevators to each storey are provided to improve accessibility with an automated
payment machine on each floor to ease patrons during ticket payment. There will also be a
ticket counter located on the ground floor for manual payment of parking tickets; this is
helpful to avoid patrons ending up with a handful of coins or patrons having to run to Cova
Square due to lack of small change. The parking administrator office is located on the ground
floor to assist patrons on any parking-related issues.

On each parking bay, there will be an indicator light which turns green when the lot is
available and turns red when the lot is utilised. This gives a useful guide for patrons as to
finding a parking space in the shortest time. An electronic board showing the available
parking spaces are mounted near each floor ramp to guide patrons during their search for
available parking bays.
On the security side, surveillance cameras are mounted on the roof of each storey covering all
the bays on each floor to provide a tight security ensuring patrons’ peace of mind. The
lighting of the parking structure will be sufficient for clear view inside the building. Fire exits
and emergency telephones will be available on each floor to meet the safety requirement of
the authority.

To increase the safety features on the proposed parking lot, a retractable wheel clamp is
provided on each bay where patrons have the option of locking the front left wheel to the
structure’s column. The locking mechanism is actuated via a 4 digit passcode security system
as implemented in today’s secured briefcases. Patrons only need to park within the designated
area in the bay, pull the clamp towards the front wheel, lock it up, and set up a 4 digit
passcode which is used to lock and unlock the clamp. In cases where patrons forgot the
passcode, parking administrator may unlock it with a master key at a reasonable fee.
