GUIDELINES FOR MECHANICAL VENTILATION PLAN SUBMISSIONS MV-01-2013

This document provides the minimum information required in the submission of
applications for ACMV plan approvals.
Accomplish this form correctly by checking the applicable provision/s for each item.
This document shall form part of the attachments of the plan/drawings to be submitted PS-_____-MV
for QCDD review/approval.

1.0 GENERAL
Plan Submission and Contents

1.1 Drawings in ACAD file format, completely done, bonded, prepared with
corresponding model space and paper space layouts
1.2 Drawing page contains complete information such as the following:
a) The complete name/title of the project
b) Name of the Owner of the project
c) Location of the project
d) Name of the consulting firm, its logo/stamp
e) Name of the consulting firm’s designated responsible Consultant
f) Consultant endorsement stating among others specific laws, codes and
standards governing the design of the project as well as the practice of
engineering in Qatar; Consultant’s acknowledgement of his
responsibilities being the person in-charge of the design of the project,
Consultant discipline and UPDA license, etc.
g) Scale of all drawings
h) History/revisions of the plan
i) Drawing title, sheet no.
j) Space for QCDD signature/stamp
1.3 Drawing cover page in accordance to QCDD recommended format.
Information on drawing cover page:
 General Notes
 Lists of the Codes, Standards and other references used in the design
 Legends and symbols
 Summary of the Design Criteria and Objectives for each type of smoke
control system provided in the building
 Event matrix
 Schedule of equipment (where the same can be accommodated in the
same page; otherwise provide on a separate page)
 Summary of other assumptions and design considerations
 List of other fire protection systems provided in the building

2.0 MINIMUM INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED ON THE PLANS AND OTHER
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
2.1 Background of the Project and Design
2.1.a Detailed Design Report – a narrative report which provides the following:
- Description of the building, uses and occupancies of each spaces, passive
and active fire protection system that will work together with the smoke
control system.
- Design criteria and objectives.
- Smoke control system rational analysis.
- Type/s of smoke control system provided in the building:
 Passive smoke control system (fire or smoke barrier construction).
 Active smoke control systems.
 Smoke containment system; e.g. pressurization system
 Smoke management system; e.g. smoke-heat exhaust
ventilation system.
- Method of operation of each zone (how the system will be initiated in
each zone and associated system responses.
- Event matrix relating to the methods of operation of the systems in the
building.
- CFD analysis and other calculations associated with smoke control
system.
- Fire modeling and other performance based analysis where utilized in the
design of smoke control system.
- Design Fire:
 Anticipated fuel load, type of fuel/s, fuel characteristics, fire
behavior.
 Design of heat release assumption.
 Analysis on sprinkler effectiveness, its effect to the fire and smoke.
2.1.b Drawings/layout showing the compartmentation procedures employed in the
building; clear identification of the smoke zone boundaries and respective fire
ratings.
2.1.c
Drawings/layout of the specific smoke control systems’ components; e.g.
equipment and ductworks.

with the schematic/riser diagram on the same drawing page.

associated system response, etc.

Schedule of equipment
- Fan capacities and ratings as per calculation report
- Fan components temperature and fire ratings
- Duct materials and joints thickness, temperature and fire ratings
- Type of dampers (fire, fire/smoke dampers), temperature and fire
ratings

Technical Information
2.2.a
Relevant information and details such as but not limited to the following are
provided on the plan submission:
 Smoke Containment System (smokeproof enclosures, zoned smoke
control, etc.)
- Method/s employed:
 Mechanical means
 Natural means
- Calculations: leakages, number of open doors, door opening
forces, pressure differentials, air velocities, ACH, etc.
- Over-pressurization control provisions
- Fans and its rated capacities, temperature and fire ratings
- Stand-by fans (where required)
- Means/method of supplying pressurization air (single injection,
multiple injection)

N.B. QCDD permits single injection up to five (5) floor levels being
served by the stairwell or up to 30.5 m total stair shaft height

initiating devices)

- Demonstrate compliance to QCD FSS 1.5
2.4 Location/s of fire fighter smoke control station in the building; details of
smoke control system fan panels, manual activation/deactivation and
override switches, etc.
2.5 Location and ventilation of vital system installations such as the fire pump
room, generator room, fire lift/lift machine room, etc.
2.6 Schematic/riser and control diagrams showing the connections and
arrangement of the components of the system according to its logic of
operation
2.7 Diagram of the smoke control system wiring connections
2.8
Complete drawings/layout of the smoke control system plans which provides
among others the following:
 Cover page
 Respective floor plans
 Full height section details showing installation of the equipment
relative to the building or spaces being served
 Mechanical equipment and complete duct works layout
 Duct transitions and wall penetration seals, details and type of
fire sealant materials used
 Associated dampers (description, locations, installation details,
respective supervised positions, actuation temperature of fusible
link type dampers, etc.)
 Air quantities on duct inlets and outlets

Note:
Herein listed minimum required information is only those deemed necessary to proceed with the plan
review/evaluation. QCDD may require additional information during the course of its review/evaluation of
the plans and documents submitted. Similarly, the Consultant may opt to provide additional information he
believed would be beneficial in the review/evaluation and approval of the plans.
