Three candidates A,B , C are contesting for the board of Governors of SGGS. The
probability of their winning are 0.5, 0.3,0.2 resp. If A wins the probability of
introducing master in mathematics is 0.7 and corresponding probabilities for B
and C are 0.6 and 0.5 resp. What is the probability that the master program in
mathematics will be introduced in SGGS.

On a midterm exam, students X, Y, and Z forgot to sign their papers. Professor
Patil knows that they can write a good exam with probabilities 0.8, 0.7, and 0.5,
respectively. After the grading, he notices that two unsigned exams are good and
one is bad. Given this information, and assuming that students worked
independently of each other, what is the probability that the bad exam belongs to
student Z?
Problem 4
Bag A contain 2 white and 3 red balls and bag B contains 4 white and 5 red balls.
One ball is drawn at random from one of the bags and found to be red. Find the
probability it was drawn from the bag B.
Problem 5
A man is known to speak truth 3 out of 4 times. He throws a die and reports that
it is a 6. Find the probability that it is actually a 6.
Problem 6
Email programs all come in with a spam filter that calculates probabilities to
decide if an incoming email is spam or not spam. We know that 60% of all email is
spam. We also know from experience that 90% of all spam has a fake subject
where as only 20% of non spam has a fake subject. What is the probability that an
email is spam given that it has a fake subject.
Problem 7
A list of important customers contains 25 names. Among them 20 persons have
their accounts in good standing while 5 are blameful. Two persons will be selected
at random from this list and the status of their accounts checked. Calculate the
probability that (a) Both accounts are blameful.
(b) One account is blameful and the other is in good standing.
