A Reflection Paper on Amazing Grace

The film entitled Amazing Grace is a 2006 British-American biographical drama film directed
by Michael Apted. The film revolves on the life and work of the British politician and abolitionist
campaigner William Wilberforce. The film concentrates on the period between the 1780s and the early
1800s, during which Wilberforce was involved in the movement to abolish slave trade.

Through the movie, viewers can be influenced and can even open their awareness. For instance
the movie portrayed the slave trade in which the blacks are being abused for their color. Then, by the
works of William Wilberforce the slave trade was abolished. Thus, the message of this part shows that
all people must be treated equally.

On the other hand, the movie gave me numerous learnings that are very meaningful. I learned
that regardless of our race we are all created equally. Moreover, there were two lines that struck me.
The first one is that “Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly. I'm a great
sinner and Christ is a great Savior.” This line shows the great love and amazing grace of God to mankind
that despite that we are sinners, he died for our salvation. The second one is that “God sometimes does
His work with gentle drizzle, not storms.” This line shows that God doesn’t give us challenges that we
cannot overcome.

In my opinion, the movie was entitled Amazing Grace because the movie showed the amazing
grace and love of God to mankind as seen through the works done by William Wilberforce to abolish
the slave trade.

Indeed, the movie “Amazing Grace” is a wonderful and inspiring film.
