Installation

3 Installation

3.1 Mounting

Depending on the configuration ordered, there are several ways to mount the VL ... 3000.
Use the appropriate section below to mount the VL ... 3000.

NOTE:
Install the VL ... 3000 with adequate clearance around the heat sink to provide sufficient
air flow such that ambient temperatures do not exceed the operating limits. Install cooling
fan(s) in the enclosure, if necessary.
When installing the VL ... 3000 in a cabinet, follow these general rules:
– Verify clearances within the cabinet. Typically, leave at least 5 cm (2 in.) on each side
with 12.7 cm (5 in.) on the connector side if the VL ... 3000 has the optional optical
storage drive.
– Drill all holes and make all cuts before beginning installation. Be sure to protect already
installed components from shavings.
– Supporting panels must be at least 14 gauge to provide proper support.
– Make sure that there is adequate space around the heat sink (on the back of the
VL ... 3000) and air inlets and outlets to provide sufficient cooling.

NOTE:
Exceeding the system temperature limits can result in performance degradation of any or
all components. It is therefore important that the ambient temperature of the installation
environment is kept within the system temperature limits of your VL ... 3000.

Please be aware that adding PCI cards can add heat to the system.

5.3 BIOS configuration

Among other things, the BIOS prepares the hardware for the operating system and loads
(boots) the operating system.

NOTE:
Changing settings within the BIOS could disable the unit. Be careful to only modify items
intended for configuration when modifying BIOS settings.
There must be an actual (physical) keyboard attached to one of the USB ports.

A device must be connected before power-up to be displayed as a selectable device. This

applies to bootable CompactFlash cards as well as any external USB drives connected to
a USB port.

To access the BIOS setup utility, power up or restart the IPC. During the boot-up process,
press the <Delete> key to enter the BIOS setup utility.
Use the arrow keys to navigate and highlight desired selections. On-screen instructions are
provided in the upper right corner and the available commands are in the lower right corner.
