Once upon a time in Dewata Island (Bali), lived a kind young man named I Ceker Cipak. He
lived with his mother. The two were well known as very honest people, although they were poor.
One day, I Cipak thought that he should go to the market of the kingdom to start his business plan
there.

I Ceker Cipak : “Mom, do you still have any saving?”

Mother : “Why did you ask about our saving?”
I Ceker Cipak : “We cannot just wait. We will die if there is no food. We need to do something.”
Mother : “ What’s your plan my dear?”
I Ceker Cipak : “ I’m going to buy some sacks of corn and sell them back after boiled.
Mother : “ Are you sure with you plan?”
I Ceker Cipak : “ Oh come on mom, please”
Mother : “Alright. But remember we just have one hundred thousand rupiah. If you are
failed, we don’t have another saving.”
I Ceker Cipak : “Yeah mom please trust me”
Mother : “Okey, take this dear” (give one hundred thousand rupiah)

Next morning , I Cipak walked to the town market to buy some corn. On his way, he saw a
man beating up a snake.I Cipak wanted to save the snake.
I Ceker Cipak :“Everyone, stop.”
The Man :“Where are you come from , young man?”
I Ceker Cipak :“I’m Cipak from Payangan village.”
The Man :“Why did you stop us to kill that snake? Stay away from it.”
I Ceker Cipak :“No, I will not let you hurt this snake anymore. Well, I give you fifty thousand
rupiah for the snake.”
The Man :“Hmm…OK, we will give that snake to you. Don’t let it come to our village
again.”
I Ceker Cipak :“It won’t happen, Sir. Thank you.”
After saving the snake, I Cipak still had fifty thousand rupiah. On his way to the market, I
Cipak met people who were chasing two rats and beat it merciless. Again he saved the rats by
offering twenty five thousand rupiah. After that, he took the rats with the snake. After arriving at
the market, I Cipak spent his remaining money on food for him and the animals. The main goal to
buy corn was halted. People were wondering to see a man walking with the rats and a snake
following behind him. They went to the queen to report. The queen immediately called I Cipak to
the castle.
The Queen :“Who are you, young man? Where are you come from?”
I Ceker Cipak :“My name’s I Ceker Cipak, Your Majesty”
The Queen :“Why did you come to this kingdom and bring those animals with you?”
I Ceker Cipak :“Your Majesty, I would like to buy corn, however my money was used to trade
and save these animals”
The Queen :“Oh, you are a kind hearted man. Why do you not stay here for a night?”
I Ceker Cipak :“Thanks for your kindness, Your Majesty”

I Cipak agreed and stayed overnight in the palace and he couldn’t sleep because he thought
about his mother. That night, the snake that was saved by I Cipak came and hissed.
The Snake :“Sttt….Thank you, my savior. Sttt…. ”
I Ceker Cipak :“Oh… Is this for real? Are speaking to me?”
The Snake :“Sttt…. Yes, my savior. I know what you are thinking about. If you meet a giant
snake on the way home, just ask for something as a ransom if she wants me back because he is
my father, Naga Gombang. Sttt…..”
I Ceker Cipak : “Are you trusted? Sorry, im so scared. What about if a giant snake kill me ?
The Snake : It won’t happen. He is my father. I will say it to my father”
I Ceker Cipak : Okey

In the morning…
The Queen : “I Cipak, come here!”
I Ceker Cipak : “What happen Queen?”
The Queen : “Please accept these Cipak, these are some money, clothes and 10 bundles of
corn”
I Ceker Cipak : “Thank you so much Queen”
After that I Ceker Cipak went back home with the rats and the snake. When he entered the
woods, Naga Gombang appeared.

Naga Gombang :“Sttt… Hold on, young man. Give that snake to me. Stt….”

I Ceker Cipak :“You must be Naga Gombang. You must know I’m the one who saved your son.
If you want him, you must ransom him.”

Naga Gombang :“Stt… OK, you can take the golden ring on my tail. Any object rubbed by that
ring will turn into gold. Stt….”
( I Cipak gave the snake to Naga Gombang and took the golden ring)

I Cipak went home immediately with two rats. After arriving home, he realized that Naga
Gombang’s words were true that the golden ring could turn anything into gold. It changed I Cipak’s
and his mother’s life. The rumor about the golden ring was quickly spread by word of mouth.

One day the golden ring was broken into two when the mother was crushing the paddy. I
Cipak took it to a goldsmith.
I Cipak : “ Goldsmith, please repair my ring” (Give the ring to the goldensmith)
Golden Smith: “Ok, but maybe it take a long time to repair this ring”
I Cipak : “Ok, no problem”

Unfortunately, the goldsmith learned about the golden ring switched it with a similar one.
On the next week…

Golden Smith : “Here you are. I repaired it for a week to make it as usual. Now, you can use it”

I Cipak : “Well, thanks, Sir”

Golden Smith : “Such an idiot man. I have changed the real ring to the imitate one, hahaha”

(He said it after I Cipak went away).

I Cipak didn’t realize it and went back home with the imitation one. When arriving home, I
Cipak and his mother was so sad because the ring couldn’t be used like before. The rats were
unhappy with that condition.
The 1 Rat : “Cicicicitt, I am so sad that I Cipak cannot make his life and be a poor man again.
We need something to do, cicicicitt”

The 2 Rat : “Cicicicitt. Yeah, I agree with you. He is our live savior. Now, It’s time for us to
help him. Aha……… I have an idea. We run the golden smith’s house and take the ring cicicicicit”

The 1 Rat : “Cicicicitt, it’s so brilliant”

The 2 Rat : “Ciciciciit alright. Let’s do this, cicicicicit “

At midnight, they came to the goldsmith’s house. The rats searched for the ring and rats made
a hole on the chests with their sharp teeth and found the ring hidden in a chest. The rats rushed to
bring back the golden ring.

I Ceker Cipak :“Owhh, thank you, guys. You’ve helped me to get this magic ring back. I promise
to be more careful.

The 1 Rat : “Cicicicicicit, My pleasure, our savior. You are worth to get this because of your
kindness, cicicicicicicicit.”

After that day, I Cipak and his mother was getting richer. He was also generous. He helped
people who needed his help. One day, I Cipak came to the king to express his gratitude. I Cipak
was clean and well-dressed now who previously looked shabby. The king accepted I Cipak and
wanted to make him his son in law. In the end, I Cipak was married to the princess, Ni Seroja and
lived happily ever after.
