2) A butt joint is used to connect two 12mm thick plates as shown in figure. The diameter
of bolts is 20mm. The factored tensile force on the plates is 500KN. Design the
connection.

3) A lower chord of the truss has a vertical and diagonal member meeting at a point A in it as 300mm
shown in figure along with the axial forces. Design the joint A of the roof truss if the members are

connected with 16mm diameter bolts of 4.6 grade to the gusset plate of 12mm thick.
Calculate Bolt value and no. of bolt for each member and draw fig.
4) Determine the maximum load in the bolt of the eccentric connection as shown in fig.1

8) A bracket is subjected to a load of 100KN as shown in figure 4. The bracket is welded to a
stanchion by means of three weld lines. Find out the size of weld so that the load is carried safely.
9) A bracket plate is used to transfer the reaction of a beam to a column flange as shown
in figure. The bracket plate is connected to the column flange by a 6mm fillet weld.
Compute the maximum load that can be placed over the bracket plates at a distance of
75mm from the flange of the column section.
